7 fabulous blog posts for reception year parents – Mummascribbles

With Zach starting school in just over a week’s time, I have been reading every blog post that I come across that feature hints and tips on dealing with the start of reception. I feel like I can’t be prepared enough for what is about to happen. From the emotions (mine and his!), the school run, and the regularity of washing; along with the worries of him making friends, eating his lunch and getting changed for PE.

I can’t put my finger on how I feel about him starting school now that the time is almost here.

In one sense I am so excited for him, this massive new journey, new friends and learning new things.

In another sense, I am so going to miss him around the house. I know that Oscar is going to miss him massively too.

And then in one other sense, I can’t blooming wait because his attitude right now is a bit pig stinking bad and I am fed up of dealing with it all day every day! Honestly, it’s like a whirlwhind – one minute I am looking at him adoringly and the next I am screaming at him for backchatting me or being rude.

Despite all the bad things, I know that I am probably going to be a sobbing mess as I walk away from that first drop off – especially if he is a sobbing mess too. It’s so important for him that I am prepared though, because he needs to trust that I know exactly what is going to happen – exactly what I need to do. And that’s why I have been reading everything.

I am sure that many of you are in the same boat, with your eldest born going off to school in the next couple of weeks, and so I thought it might be useful if I pop down the links to what I have read. There is a minefield of information out there and so it’s always handy to have these things in one place. Next year I am sure I’ll be writing my own surviving reception style post, but for now, I’ll hand you over to the experts!

Vicky from Single Mother Ahoy wrote a fab piece entitled How to prepare for reception year and it is full of fab tips.

Sarah over at Digital Motherhood wrote Back to school must-haves which has a bunch of stuff I hadn’t even considered!

Sophie from Old House in the Shires wrote 5 Top Tips from a reception teacher for preparing your child for big school

Emma from Brummy Mummy of Two wrote the gorgeous Open letter for when your child starts reception

Karen from Stopping At Two took a humourous angle in her Five things that nobody has told you about your child’s reception year. She then also wrote a more serious post, Tips for starting school from PTA UK

And finally, Sabrina from The Mummy Stylist wrote To the parent whose child is starting reception this year

And that simply leaves me to say to all you mummies and daddies out there preparing for that first day of school…

Good luck. I’m sending you a virtual hug, a cup of tea and a massive slab of chocolate cake!
