A weekend fit for a train fanatic – Mummascribbles

Sometimes you just have one of those weekend’s where everything you have planned is an absolute winner in the eyes of your children. Zach is obsessed with trains at the moment. He has always liked them but I have to say that it has moved from just being a fan to being completely obsessed. Everything involves a choo choo train. In the garden, he gets the chairs in a line and we have to sit and pretend to be passengers. He comes along to take our tickets, sits in the drivers seat (the front chair!) and makes a wooo wooo noise. He also does this at my mum’s house with her dining chairs and we have been told that he also makes them do it at nursery, asking at regular intervals throughout the day if it’s choo choo train time yet and dragging chairs across the room to form one! The other day at home there were a few plastic bottles and boxes waiting to go out to the recycling box and what did he do? Pretended they were a train. Like I say…obsession!

On Saturday, there was a family fun day at a church about twenty minutes from us. We knew about it because the lady who runs his music class was doing a special session there with a teddy bear’s picnic and we thought we’d go for the whole day and explore the village while doing a treasure hunt and have a bite to eat from their BBQ. When we arrived, in the actual church, was a guy with some electic trains set up. Well, you can imagine can’t you?! He was even doing two different types of whistles to make it realistic! Zach was in his absolute element. I was stressed because there were signs everywhere saying, please do not touch! Trying to get a 2 year old to not touch something is hard enough, but when it’s a train, it’s near on impossible. I was doing so well, I really was. And then I looked away for a second and he touched it! So gently, but the carriages came apart and the guy was annoyed! Then, to try and stop Zach from doing anything further, I put my piece of paper down not realising that on the way round was another train. It crashed into my piece of paper and fell sideways. I was mortified! I was as bad as my son!

After managing to drag Zach away for some food, we left to do the hunt! The village was so gorgeous and I was totally ready to move there – until I realised that some of the houses that we were passing were worth around £3million!! Back to reality, we went to the music class which was just fab. He goes every week with my mum so it was lovely to experience a session with him. His favourite part, as is with every week, was when the leader had to put her big box full of instruments away – Zach pretends it’s a train and has to help her every time haha! We had a fab day but sadly, I didn’t take any photos so I can’t show you!

What I can show you though, is Sunday! Lots of photos follow!

I have written here about the wonders of Royal Gunpowder Mills that is not far from us. It hosts events throughout the year and this weekend was by far the one for Zach. It was the steam weekend. Yep, that’s right – a whole day of steam train engines! Strangely, he had woken up on Sunday asking to see some steam (yes really!), and yet he had no idea that we were going there. We knew there wouldn’t be a huge amount to do, and ended up getting there quite late, but he had two full hours of trains and he was straight on them!

He was taken on up on the huge engine – he was fine until he helped them blow the whistle on it which was reeeeally loud!

Here he is with his cousin!

They had this super cool supercar there. My sister and nephew had seen this being driven down the road while they were on the way to us and almost crashed the car!

Zach loved pretending he was a bus driver! He kept saying, close my door please!

He told this man that this train was his favourite! You can tell by the amount of photos of him on it!

They even had a Thomas there! He was so happy!

Also inside the Mills is a fab live science area where they show you some fab experiments! Zach loved seeing the flame of fire made by setting light to flour!!

I just love this place! Zach always has the best day. Next weekend is Wild West time! Expect a post on that too hehe!
