{AD} 7 Ways to Keep Up With Your Blog During Your Travels – Mummascribbles

AD – This is a collaborative post

You spend years building your personal brand and becoming a name in the industry, yet your adoring public quickly forgets about you if you take even a few weeks off. If you’ve managed to do what many have failed and turned their blog into a career, you know how important it is to stay on top of your writing schedule and provide a steady stream of content both on your website and through social media.

But what about your life? After all, you still have a life to live, especially if you’re a travel blogger. You still want to enjoy the places you go while juggling blogging responsibilities, booking hotels and activities, and having a good time. So, how can you stay on top of your blog while you travel? Here is some advice to consider.

Plan Ahead

Any job requires at least some ability to plan ahead, and travel blogging arguably makes it easier. Most of the time, you know where you’re going, when you’re going, and how long it will take to get there.

However, you also know that travel plans sometimes go awry. That’s okay though because you’ve planned. You should have a solution if there is a Wi-Fi issue at your hotel. You have an idea of what to write in case the weather cancels your activities. You know that you will have something to write about and publish, even if it’s not what you hoped to write.

Do Your Research

Travel blogging becomes much easier if you know where you’re going and what to expect. It will also become much easier to write about your destination if you have some background knowledge before arriving.

With research, you have a base to build on. You will find it easier to write something if you have the historical context or small yet fascinating tidbits, especially if the destination was the setting for one of your favorite movies.

Hopefully, you’ll have plenty of time to do this research while waiting for a flight or on the overnight bus, at least before you get some much-needed sleep anyway.

Stop Chasing Perfection

As a writer, you know that good enough isn’t, well, good enough. You will constantly fret over an errant comma here or a sentence that just sort of ends

You want to create the best content for your readers, but this isn’t always possible. Sometimes, inspiration isn’t there, or you find out you don’t have as much to say as you thought you did. You may not have the time to go through every sentence with a fine tooth comb.

Rather than delete the post and start all over, accept that any content is better than none. The sooner you stop chasing perfection, the easier it will be to keep on top of your blog. Just try not to make a habit of writing something only good enough because the overall quality may be affected.

Go Old School

What did travel writers and reporters do back in the day without smartphones or laptops? They wrote everything down by hand. Going old school doesn’t just feel kind of cool, but it also helps you return to the moment time and time again, which is especially important when copying up notes to create a fully-fledged blog post.

Bring a small notebook wherever you go to record the date, time, location, and anything that happened that you think might be interesting. These small details can be crucial in improving your blog posts and ensuring you make your readers feel they were right there beside you.

Take Lots Of Photos

Besides going old school, you should also take lots of photos. How many photographs, though? Think about the number of photos you think are suitable and double it. Although you don’t want to be that person who spends the entire time snapping away, these photos will be crucial for your blog when you eventually come to write a post.

Not only will photos help your readers visualize your adventure, but they can also help you discuss unique details. With multiple photos, you can also find one perfect for the post, whether as a primary image or dotted throughout the post to add context and further interest.

Work On-the-Go

Despite being a travel blogger, you know how much time you spend sitting around, whether at the airport or bus terminal or in your hotel room waiting for the monsoon to pass. These stationary times can be frustrating because you just want to see or do something, anything.

But, they can also be a blessing, especially if you’ve not stopped for a few weeks. When you’ve got no choice but to sit and wait, take the opportunity to catch up on your blog. If you’re flying or on the bus, you may not even have the distraction of wi-fi, so you have no excuse to just sit and write.

Know When to Slow Down

One of the many travel blogging mistakes that writers encounter is not knowing when to slow down. They get too involved in their blog. They adore the comments and the shares. They need people to read their work. This can cause them to spend all their time on their device, meaning they may end up missing their adventure.

There’s no point in being a travel blogger if you don’t take the time to take in your surroundings. Going from one destination to the next without appreciating the environment and destination means you only scratch the surface, and that’s not what many readers are looking for at all.

On the Road, In the Sky

With so much excitement surrounding your adventures, it can be challenging to sit down and write or recount your journey so far and any plans for the rest of the trip. Your audience will want to hear from you, so do not forget these tips the next time you feel like you can’t keep up with your blog. As long as you get your approach down, you’ll have no trouble sharing your adventures with the world.
