An interview with myself! – Mummascribbles
I’ve had quite a few new followers recently (hello to you!), so I thought I’d do a little interview with myself for you and those who’ve been with me along the blogging journey so far.
Name
Lisa aka mummascribbles
Age
32
Location: Hertfordshire and London
Who do you live with?
My partner Dean, our little boy Zachary who is two, our cat Millie (who is very poorly) and some fish.
Where did you meet your other half?
We met at college about 15 years ago and have been in the same group of friends since. We got together 4.5 years ago and decided pretty quickly to live together and then not long after to have a baby. I’m still awaiting the marriage proposal!! He’ll be rolling his eyes reading this!!
Who else is in your family?
I have a wonderful mum who is one of the main carers to Zach while I work. My dad died 2.5 years ago and she decided life was too short so gave up work and then decided to help us out. I also have a fab sister who has a husband and almost teenage boy! Then there’s Dean’s mum and dad, his brother, brothers girlfriend and three young children. In total I have two nephews and two nieces.
What do you like doing when you’re not working, parenting or blogging?
There isn’t a huge amount of time outside of those things! Mostly I like to chill out, watch tv, a movie, and sleep! I do however love the theatre and really need to find the time and money to go! I also love reading, it’s one of the benefits of my tube journey to and from work.
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
Other than Zach (which is obvious), probably managing to scrape enough money together for the deposit on our house. We were living in a tiny one bed rented flat until April 2014 and I feel proud that our hard work has given Zach a proper home.
If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive), who would it be and why? * Quentin Tarantino because I think he is simply a genius and also a lot of fun! * Freddie Mercury so he can sing lots of awesome queen songs!
* My Dad because it would mean I get to see him again.
Give three random facts about you
* I almost died when I was a baby! I stopped breathing and was resuscitated by a colleague of my dad who beat the ambulance to our house!
* I have two tattoos. I will at some point get one that represents Zach but I haven’t got round to it yet!
* I’m not a very good swimmer. When my parents tried me with lessons when I was younger, I screamed the place down and was removed from the pool!!
Why did you start the mummascribbles blog?
This blog isn’t the first that I’ve started. I’ve had a couple of goes at a crafty one and another but I never really focused on them and didn’t keep them up. Having Zach made me come across lots of blogs when googling parenting questions and it made me realise that I myself had a speciality subject. I also love writing and while I’ll never be a published author, a blog would give me the means of putting my love of it to use. I therefore decided that I’d give my own parenting blog a go and that’s where mummascribbles came from.
What do you blog about? I predominantly blog about parenting a toddler. Previous blog posts have been about tantrums, birthdays, bedrooms, days out, working and lots, lots more. Obviously my blog topics will change shape slightly as Zach gets older!
I also do product reviews and have two currently ready to be written. I also feature guest posts relevant to my blog subject so get in touch if you’d like to feature 🙂
What do you want your blog to achieve? My blog is for me to enjoy writing and for anyone else who can relate to it or simply enjoy reading it. Being a full time working mum can be incredibly hard. I have no choice but to work for financial reasons and I know there are a lot of people out there in the same boat as me. We regularly feel guilty that we don’t spend enough time with our children, that we aren’t the ones bringing our children up, wishing the day away at work so we can rush home to get our little ones before they have to go to bed. If somewhere along the line in my experiences, I help someone who is feeling like a bad parent or like they are ready to tear their hair out then that’s a massive bonus and that’s definitely a sense of what I go about to achieve.
It’s also incredibly hard to be a parent in general and again, if I can show someone that my child is behaving exactly like theirs or give someone a little insight into what might be coming their way, then that’s also a massive bonus. I’ve had some fantastic feedback from people that have benefitted from reading my posts and it makes me so happy.
What hopes do you have for your blog in 2015?
I hope that I can still keep creating content that people like to read. I hope that my followers continue to grow because whilst I just love writing, I also love knowing that people enjoy what I’m writing. I love receiving comments on my posts, chatting with other bloggers on social media and sharing our experiences. I’ve come across some amazing bloggers out there and if I can achieve just a shadow of what they’ve achieved then I’ll be a happy lady.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
Just go for it! I’m still very new to blogging, having started only six months ago! I started out on basic wordpress and when I realised it was more than just an idea I went self hosted and then got myself my very own design. Setting mummascribbles up is definitely one of the best things I’ve done 🙂
