Away again – but this time feels a little different! – Mummascribbles
I’m sitting in the waiting room at Leeds train station, awaiting my connection to Harrogate. It’s raining, dreary and bloody cold and I’ve left my boy back home having fun with Daddy, seeing some of our friends, staying at Nanny and Grandad’s while Daddy goes to a firework party that I should have been at.
Originally I’d been asked if I could travel up on Sunday. That soon changed to Saturday once I started helping on the exhibition side of things which started setting up at 8am this morning. Of course I had to say yes even though I had plans. It’s a new company and I want them to be flexible with me so I will be flexible with them where I can.
I do also have an air of excitement. Yes I miss my boy as I always do, but this is the first conference I’m away on with my new company and it’s a biggy! 1500 delegates, 80 odd exhibitors, 240 posters, a black tie gala dinner for 1000 people and half of the office in attendance including the owner of the company and the MD. Like I say, it’s a biggy and I feel happy that I was asked to come, excited to see such a big conference put together, to see how it all runs and happy to be a part of it after only 3 weeks with the company.
This is their biggest conference – one I may be working on much closer next year (which terrifies me slightly!). It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited for a conference, especially when it means spending a weekend away from home as that makes it a lot harder. But now as I sit on the train to my destination, warmed by my hot chocolate, I’m looking forward to getting stuck in with work, taking in how they work so I can apply it all to my own conferences, experiencing a whole new conference centre, eating nice food, celebrating with the organisers at the gala dinner and of course, counting down the days until I can see my squidgy boy again.
And until then, I’ll have to rely on gorgeous pictures like this of him having fun without me!
