Christmas is coming! – Mummascribbles

Even though I have a pile of boxes in our bedroom that are full of presents, in my head I feel completely unorganised for Christmas. With just two weeks until the big day I feel like there is so much I still need to do and I need to get myself in order to figure out who I still need to buy for! I’ve done all of my shopping online so far, bar one present which I reserved in store. I don’t really like shopping and I especially don’t like it at Christmas. I tend to find that I’m ok if I know what I’m getting but I can’t just meander around the shops trying to find presents for people; I have to at least have an idea In my head. I could however sit on the internet for hours, searching for gifts and then have the luxury of them being delivered to my front door (or to the neighbours who have been collecting all our boxes of goodies for us this year!).

I confess that most of the presents I do have are for Zach. I feel I may have gone a little crazy this year as he has tons of stuff but I think only a couple of the items were paid for at full price. There have been so many online bargains in the last couple of weeks and I just cannot resist a bargain! It’s not like we treat him continuously throughout the year so I think I’m allowed to spoil him at Christmas. It’s also the first Christmas that he is starting to understand and so I want it to be extra special for him. I am also awaiting delivery of a rather large personalised sack for him that I got through Wowcher (another bargain), along with a personalised key for Santa to use that we will leave out with the milk and cookies (and beer if daddy gets his own way!).

I also have the problem in December that it isn’t just Christmas. My brother in law’s birthday is next week and my mum’s is five days before Christmas. I do wish people would plan better and not have December babies – it makes it very difficult when you have to think of double the presents and expense! And so, I still have a list of people to buy for but not a list of ideas! I finish work next Friday and so if I do need to make a dash to the shops I will have time although it will be extremely busy – definitely something to do while Zach will be busy at nursery.

Food wise, we are hosting for the OH’s family for dinner this year! I put my order in for a turkey from Tesco’s and the lady said they would be calling me on Monday just gone, to arrange pick up times and confirm the order. I haven’t had a phone call yet though so I’m a little panicky about that. May have to pop in there to confirm that it hasn’t gone missing and that we will be getting a turkey this year else it’ll be fish and chips all round – chippies are open on Christmas day right?!

In better planning, the tree has been up for a week and a bit which makes Zach a very happy boy. One of our favourite things on the journey home from my mum’s of an evening is spot the Christmas lights! There seem to be so many this year, more than last year, and people seem to have gone all out. There are lights everywhere and they are so pretty that it’s hard not to feel festive! I really would like to take him into Central London to see some of the lights but I’m thinking London at Christmas with a buggy is a recipe for disaster! We’ll see!

I’m on the Christmas countdown now. 6.5 more days of work, this evening we have the other half’s Christmas party (a posh do in a hotel and my first Christmas dinner of the year!), next Thursday is my Christmas party (a less posh do in a local bar that the OH isn’t invited to!), and then it’s family time. I can’t wait

Our Christmas tree this year 🙂

How are your preparations for the festive season going? Are your little ones getting mega excited or are they still a little too young to understand? And do you have your tree up already, presents wrapped (I hate that bit!), still lots to buy? I can’t be the only one that feels under prepared!
