Let's talk about forties skin
I entered my forties in 2022 so am now swiftly heading to 42. It’s quite amazing how it only feels like yesterday that 40 was around the corner and we are now almost two years on. I wish time would slow a bit, but I know it won’t – at least not while life is chaotic with the juggle of kids, jobs, and life! I’m sure one day it’ll slow down, but by then, I’ll probably be wishing for all the things I have now to return again, so I do try to savour it!
Anyway, back to the point of this post. The post-turning 40 skin dilemma.
Now, let me tell you something. I never got spots as a kid. Well, not never – if I did get one, it was just the one and it was massive, but generally my skin was fresh as a daisy and I had no outbreaks and I was pretty darn pleased with that. I know that the husband had really bad acne as a teenager, so it’s something I’m prepared for with the boys if they develop it – I know that the husband was prescribed something that cleared it up completely so I’ll be jumping straight on that bandwagon if they do get it.
But me? Nada. Beautiful skin. Oh how I am glad that I revelled in that skin while I did, because I can tell you right now, that my skin post-40 is bad. I know I don’t drink as much water as I should, but I genuinely don’t think it’s down to that. I believe it is absolutely down to my changing hormones as I navigate the next stage of my womanly life.

The problem is, trying to work out what is best for it! There are so many products out there and it can get very expensive finding the right one. I used to be a Tropic girl – I absolutely loved it and swore by it. But when I started getting these breakouts, it wasn’t working as well, and it was getting increasingly expensive, so I moved onto something else . That something else is Wildmint Cosmetics which I do absolutely love. It makes my skin feel really fresh and lovely, but has it helped with my new spotty self? No, it hasn’t. I have quite a bit of it left so I’ll continue to use it, but then I’ll be trying the next thing. I have seen good things about Facetheory which keeps popping up on my FB ads, but I have a feeling I am just putting money into things that ultimately aren’t going to work. But equally, these outbreaks are doing my brain in and some of them are just there permanently – particularly the ones on my cheeks.

So, my question is, does anyone else suffer with the forties spot outbreaks, and if so, have you managed to find a magic lotion for them. A bonus would be if it can help deal with those ‘fine lines’ that seem to be developing here, there and everywhere!
I’m off now to gulp down several glasses of water and mentally note that I really need to drink more of the stuff – I know it might at least help, even if it doesn’t rid them completely!

P.S. I know my eyebrows need sorting…haven’t had a chance to get to the salon!!
