Mummascribbles – A posh night out for two! – Mummascribbles

It’s not every day that you get to dress up in a beautiful dress and head off to a lovely event with your other half on your arm! In fact, it happens once a year and this year, it happened last night. It was the other half’s Christmas party! Because his party means being an hour and a half away from home, we’d arranged for Zach to spend the night at nannie’s so that we didn’t have to worry about getting home at a reasonable time! On Wednesday night we’d had discussions about what time we’d have to leave (remembering that last year it was just as the dancing was getting started), and we made an impromptu decision to find a cheap hotel on the net! So, not only did we have a night out together completely child free, we also had a night in a hotel – although, well, I’ll come to it later but it’s safe to say we got what we paid for!

I left work at the normal time and headed onto a hideously packed train to Richmond to meet the other half at his offices so I could get changed and jump in the taxis that they were putting on.

The main do was at the Orangery in Kew Gardens – major posh. And? It was a masquerade ball! Oh yes, we got to dig out the masks we made three years ago for our friends birthday party!

The setting was absolutely beautiful inside, it had been stunningly decorated with half of it dedicated to the dinner and the other half dedicated to the dance floor.

There were some beautiful decorations that were so fab to photograph.

The food was delicious and normally I’d show you but I ate it before I remembered to take a photo (bad blogger!). Of course the main was a roast turkey dinner! If I liked Christmas pudding then I would have enjoyed the dessert! I did try it but it’s just not my cup of tea.

It was then time for the raffle that we didn’t win (because the prizes are ace and we are not that lucky – the receptionist won flights to New York!) and of course the best part, the dancing! It wasn’t long before I took my shoes off and just danced the night away, making song requests in the form of Hips Don’t Lie, All About That Base and of course, Christmas songs! We even managed to persuade him to play two final songs after he had technically finished – Bohemian Rhapsody and Fairytale of New York. We had such a fab time dancing and chatting the night away.

Then it was onto the hotel a short taxi ride away which cost a hideously pricey £15…shocking!.

What can I say about the hotel? It was interesting. It kind of reminded me of the Bates Motel. Yep…seriously. But, it was all we really needed and the owner was clearly no Norman. We needed a bed for the night and we got one. We rolled into our twin beds (yep really, it was all that was available!) and nodded off to sleep, getting a wee little lay in because it wouldn’t take quite as long for me to get to work.

It was such a fab night and so lovely to have a night out with my Mr who was looking very dapper. I guess I didn’t scrub up too bad either!

I’m rather tired today though and counting down the hours until I get to go and see my little munchkin. His mummy and daddy have missed him!

It’s the turn of my Christmas party next week – only the other half isn’t invited and it’s in a pub! Not quite the Kew Gardens masquerade ball!
