Mummascribbles – Because boys can like princesses too! – Mummascribbles

I have written before about Zach watching television. When he was tiny, he didn’t. Then he turned one and he watched a little bit. As he has gotten older it has definitely increased but he was, until recently, still far too active to just sit still and watch an entire programme. He now has his favourites, among which are Time for School, Peppa Pig and Sooty. Obsessed he is with the latter two that they are requested continuously. He has started getting up in the mornings and requesting to go downstairs and watch a bit of tv while me and his Dad are getting ready for work. He sits on the sofa and doesn’t move – something that is still very new to him! He also laughs in the right place, finding Peppa and George particularly hilarious!

It has always led me to wonder when he would start to enjoy films. They are of course a completely different ball game. Whilst they are visually stunning, they are long and he has never made it beyond the first five minutes (if that). I always dreamed of being able to snuggle up on the sofa with him on a rainy day and watch movies. He was never interested though and even if he was feeling poorly, he would still rather play with his toys than sit still! That is, up until now. Things are changing and his attention span is growing (a little), which means that he has suddenly started requesting to watch films.

It started out with Toy Story (1, 2 and 3), which have all now been watched several times. He still doesn’t give it 100% of his attention but there are long periods of time when he is completely sucked in by the film.

And now, he has a new favourite.

Frozen!

Yep, my little man is a massive Frozen fan and this mummy is very happy! I love Frozen because of the music. I have no doubt that I only love it because I don’t have a little girl who has been watching it, singing it, requesting princess Elsa dresses and asking for all of the other memorabilia over the past year. He has only just taken to it and I have no doubt there will be something that takes its place in a matter of days or weeks. But, when we returned home from nursery last night, he asked for a film and I asked him what he wanted. His response was immediately ‘Let it Go’. It was late and I said he couldn’t watch the whole thing. As he was in the bathroom when the all important song came on, I shouted to him and I have never seen him speed in so fast to see it whilst shouting ‘it’s the song isn’t it?’.

This morning, he woke up and asked to go downstairs to watch a film. Again I asked what he wanted to watch and he asked this time for Frozen. So I popped it on, he laid on the sofa, under his blanket and stayed there, mesmerised.

And then something happened. I was upstairs and I could hear one of the songs being sung and suddenly I heard his little voice…singing. He was singing along with the bits he knew and my heart went into overdrive! It was just such a cute thing to hear!

I absolutely love the fact that he wants to watch a film about princesses in pretty dresses. That he wants to watch what is considered a girly film and even sing along with the music. And whilst he is, I will keep singing along too. For I was upstairs drying my hair singing ‘Do you wanna build a snowman’ – which I am also now doing at my desk (minus the hair drying!).

I’m just waiting for the request of an Elsa dress now! He’s already discovered dolls!

Do you have little lads who are as into Frozen as little girls?
