Mummascribbles – Finally, the boy is into books! – Mummascribbles

It’s taken a while for us to get Zach into books. He’s always quite liked colourful, hardback picture books but he hasn’t been a fan of sitting down and being read to.

It’s drummed into us parents how important reading to our children is and so I felt like a bad mum for not reading to him every night – but what was the point when it pissed him off so much?!

I confess that his bedtime routine for quite a while consisted of the Cbeebies Bedtime Story followed by the bedtime song no less than 3 times but I figured that a) he was happy and b) he was still listening to a story, just not by us.

Fast forward somewhat and I decided that it was time to try and read to him at night again and it seemed that he was ready.

So now his bedtime routine is bath (most nights), get the milk ready, toddle upstairs, get into our bed, drink his milk, we read him a book or three and then into his cot he goes!

We even have a couple of firm favourites at the moment after the most recent trip to our library – Digger Dog by William Bee and Whoosh around the Mulberry Bush by Jan Ormerod.

I might even have to buy them for him so he’s not too upset when we have to take them back!
