Mummascribbles – Home improvements: Dreaming of new windows! – Mummascribbles

My other half is going to laugh when he reads this (as he always does when I write about anything involving large improvements to our house), but he knows that if we had the money to splash out, I would be straight in there with getting new windows. There isn’t really much wrong with our windows, I mean they work and are double glazed, but a) I don’t think the previous owners shelled out on the best set they could and b) they don’t really do much for the front of the house. Especially since we now have a beautiful front door. I think it would make a massive difference to the insulation – we noticed it hugely when we had our doors fitted and I immediately thought how much better it could be with upgraded windows. I feel that beautiful new windows would just be a huge transformation and the other half knows this. Zach thought so too when we moved in!

When I think of windows, I immediately think of the UPVC variety which most people have. But back in the day though (for those of you the same age as me, think back to your parents houses in the 80’s!), aluminium was very popular. Remember them? They weren’t the best at the time were they?

But.

Aluminium is back and better than ever and most people (including me) don’t even know about this option of window. Most wouldn’t even consider it because they are automatically drawn back to the memories of those drafts that came through their old windows. I have discovered however, that draughts are no more!  Dolphin Windows are a local company that supply and fit quality windows, doors and conservatories.  I have known about them for many years since they are based where I grew up and they are always in the local paper!  The modern aluminium windows that they use, boast a multi-chamber design meaning that far more heat can be retained within the window frame itself. Combined with good quality glazing (they can be triple glazed if you so wish), the risk of draughts is removed so heat stays within your home. I know what a difference having a new front door made to the insulation in our house so I can’t imagine how warm it would be with these too! They also won’t rust, corrode, discolour or warp – I totally remember my parents ones not remaining the same colour – oh how things have progressed!

And?

They come in different styles, including sash which I absolutely adore. Of course, with one small child and another on the way, they probably aren’t the style I would go for but if safety wasn’t an issue, I would love good quality sash windows!

It’ll be a while before we can even think about upgrading our windows, especially with a new baby on the way but I know what I’ll be looking at if we do ever get round to it!
