Mummascribbles – Kids eat free at Jamie's Italian – A Greenwich review – Mummascribbles
Today has been my 33rd birthday. You may have seen my last blog post about how I’m feeling about turning 33 but as you can imagine, and as always, it was just like any other day. I feel no different, I feel no older and I’ve had a wonderful day.
The other half and I had mentioned about going for lunch together just the two of us. I had however been a little reluctant to not spend my day with the two of them and so when I was contacted by the lovely people at Jamie’s Italian to see if I wanted to head to one of their London restaurants to try out their kids menu, it seemed like too good an opportunity to turn down. Being ridiculously busy people, the only time this whole weekend that we could go was at 12pm today and luckily they could fit us in. I was so happy that we had a lunch booked and that I got to spend it with both the men in my life.
The Jamie’s Italian kids’ menu has just topped the Soil Association’s ‘Out to Lunch’ poll for high street restaurants for the second year running! To celebrate, they will be offering kids a free meal for every adult meal purchased between the 21st October to 1st November.
We chose to go to the Greenwich Jamie’s because it was the easiest for us to get to. It also meant that Zach got to not only ride on a few trains but that he got to go on the DLR which he thought was majorly cool. We even managed to sit right at the front and he pretended he was the driver.

The Jamie’s Italian in Greenwich is just a few minutes walk from the Cutty Sark DLR station and is beautiful located in between the market and some very lovely shops. It’s a shame I had no time or money to browse around as is it such a lovely area!
When we arrived at the restaurant we gave our name and were taken to our seats. The restaurant is huge, I was genuinely surprised at how large and bright and airy it is. It even has a cute little outdoor bit that would be lovely if the weather wasn’t as nasty as it was today!
When we were seated, as standard we were given our menus and Zach was given a very special Jamie’s Little Pack of Fun along with some crayons. This kept him busy while we were ordering and waiting for our food. While we were waiting, I asked Zach what the restaurant smelt like…his response was, it smells like sausages. To be fair, it kind of did.

Initially, I was going to go for some kind of pasta dish but when we both saw on the menu that they served 10oz rib eye steak, both of us were completely swung that way. We used to eat steak at home a lot but it got so expensive it’s a real treat now. Zach chose the Lollipop chicken (because it had the word lollipop in it!). The most impressive thing about the kids menu is that it is completely organic. We then ordered some garlic bread for a side dish along with a couple of homemade lemonade’s and an apple juice for the little one.
First up came the drinks and I was so impressed with the lemonade. It looked great and tasted absolutely delicious! And Zach was very happy with his juice!

Next up came the dinner. Wow. Firstly, both meals looked fab. And then we started eating them and all fell silent! We were savouring every mouthful of the steaks and Zach was wolfing down his lollipop chicken.

It was all absolutely delicious and the garlic bread (which in my desperation to eat it, I forgot to take a photo of), was the best garlic bread I have ever eaten. Mouth wateringly delicious. I asked Zach what he was eating and how was it. He answered, chicken lollipops and it’s good! Good is a massive thumbs up from him!
We ate every mouthful of ours whilst Zach left a little bit. I asked him what he’d left and why and his response was, I left some potatoes and veg because I was full up and look see, look at my tummy (whilst pulling his t-shirt up!). I then asked him if he thinks that eating vegetables is very important and he said, yeah, because yeah…that’s why it is important. But I don’t like mash. Which is a complete lie. He loves mash!
Now as part of this special deal at the moment, you do get a dessert included. However, I confess that we didn’t have dessert for two reasons. Reason one was because we were running really late for Zach’s friends birthday party and reason two is because I knew that he would be going on to eat a shed ton of chocolate and party rings at said party. That said, I really wish I’d have got the chocolate brownie and just eaten it myself!
This was our first ever experience of a Jamie’s Italian restaurant and I have to say I have been left highly impressed. From the look of it, to the service and right through to the food, we were not left disappointed in any way. And the biggest bonus is that it is so family friendly. It is so easy to feel that bit awkward with a toddler in a restaurant but this was full of children enjoying their food and relaxed parents not worrying about their little ones causing any mischief. We will definitely be calling back there in the future. And Zach agreed too. When I asked him if he’d like to go back, he said, I want to go back now. He must have known about the dessert that I’d robbed him of!
We were very kindly invited to Jamie’s Italian in Greenwich for the purpose of this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Massive thank you to Jamie’s for making my birthday extra special 🙂
