Mummascribbles – Making home improvements with blinds – Mummascribbles

We have been busy doing things around the house just recently and getting all prepared for the upcoming arrival of baby due at any time. I am a bit of a terror and find that once I start thinking about things, I then go online and start researching them.

The other day I was stood in the kitchen cooking some dinner for myself and Zach. The weather was around 25 degrees outside and we have a South facing garden. This means that at the exact time that dinner is being cooked, the hot afternoon sun is blazing in through the back door and small kitchen window, which in turn means that the already hot job of cooking dinner is absolutely scorchio. It can be seriously uncomfortable, even with the back door wide open because in that weather, there isn’t exactly much breeze coming through the house.

I found myself standing there over the hob, sweating and thinking what a wonderful thing it would be to have some blinds out there. I have now come up with several reasons why it would be great to have blinds:

  • For the purpose above of keeping the direct sunlight from blaring inside the kitchen in the summer
  • So that when I have to go downstairs in the middle of the night for a wee, I can’t see what might be lurking out in the garden (our bathroom is downstairs and you have to walk through the kitchen to get to it!)
  • So that when I am in the shower of said bathroom and Zach walks in and back out leaving the door wide open, the next door neighbours can’t actually see my whole naked butt through the glass of the back door! Honestly I have to tell him to shut it every time!

So I found myself thinking more into this (without bothering to tell the other half about my thoughts!) and found myself once again browsing VELUX Blinds. That’s when I found the perfect product for him. In persuading him to get blinds, I can show him the awesome Star Wars and VELUX Galactic Night Collection! Seriously, how cool is that?!

Then I discovered that they have a Disney collection too and found myself dreaming about having a nursery (which we once again don’t have!) with this gorgeous Winnie the Pooh blind in it!

Back to reality for the kitchen (I wouldn’t actually allow Star Wars out there), I’d probably go for a simple coloured blind that would brighten up the room whilst hiding the sun and neighbours visions whilst I’m in a state of undress!
