Mummascribbles meets…A Toddler and a Broken Foot – Mummascribbles

Today we meet Kelly from A Toddler and a Broken Foot. Thanks so much for joining in Kelly.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family.
I was born a Brockman at the LGi in Leeds but became Mrs Kelly Leanne Laycock in September 2013! I met my fantastic but equally annoying husband Mr L at a local cricket club in 2010. My dad ran a football team from the club and Mr L played cricket. Things moved quite quickly for us, we officially lived together after 11 months, engaged after 16 months and pregnant after 19 months. We picked the name Georgia for a girl the night before our 20 week scan and when we found out we were having a daughter that stayed her name. Georgia will be 2 in April and she makes me smile every day. She’s full of personality, sociable and a daddy’s girl. She’s also like a parrot at the minute so having to be careful what we say around her.

Besides Mr L, my mum is my best friend. We are so alike it is scary at times. Her and my dad have been married 40 years and I really look up to them both. I have a ‘little’ sister (20 months younger) and we are complete opposites! This sometimes causes arguments but deep down we love each other and would always be there for each other.

I work for the local Police and Crime Commissioner and would class myself as working part time despite doing 30hrs + each week.

What do you like doing to be you, when you are not parenting, working (if you do), or blogging?
At times there doesn’t seem to be a lot of time to be me but I love shopping and buying bargains and this has only increased since becoming a mummy. I’ve been a fan of music since I was a little girl and my first concert was Michael Jackson when I was 10. Although I don’t get to as many gigs these days we do still manage a few a year and I’m hoping we’ll be able to take Georgia to a festival when she’s a little older. If I can keep my eyes open long enough on a night I like to read and since becoming a blogger I’ve been finding lots of great posts.

What is your biggest achievement to date?
Finding somebody to love me warts and all. I know I have many faults and after plenty of frogs I was lucky to find somebody who loves me as much as Mr L does, and puts up with me! Without Neil I wouldn’t have my gorgeous daughter Georgia and I will always be grateful and love him for that.

From your own experiences, what do you find the hardest part of parenting and what is the easiest/most rewarding part?
I struggled to pick 1 hardest part and came up with 3! Not always understanding what little miss needs or wants is so difficult. Especially now she is trying to communicate more, because I still don’t always know what she is saying and she doesn’t always get what I am saying which makes a frustrated little miss and mummy. This is closely followed by when she is ill. We’ve had weeks of little miss having a cold, followed by a cough, followed by another cold, then sickness, then a cough again and I’d love to have a magic wand and see her 100% again. Thirdly like a lot of mums I find it hard to find time to enjoy being Kelly and a wife. My mum likes to remind me I am still fairly newly married (although some days it feels like a lifetime) and although little miss often sleeps at Grandmas twice a week I feel we often waste the time we have to be ‘grown ups’

I find being a mummy full stop rewarding. I feel very privileged to have my little girl and maybe one day I will get to be a mummy to another child too. It has taught me so much from the day I found out I was pregnant to today. Everyday little miss shows me something new and although I know nobody is perfect I am so proud of the baby she was and the toddler she has become and look forward to watching her grow – though not too quickly I hope.

Parenting in itself is no mean feat; how do you juggle everything you need to in order to get everything done on a daily basis?
The short answer is I don’t get everything done!

Why did you decide to start blogging?
I’ve been at home since Christmas with a fractured heel and saw a friend from junior school had a blog. Reading hers turned into reading lots of others and I’m guessing like quite a few bloggers I got bit by the bug and wanted to join in.

Tell me a bit about your blog?
My blog is very new and I only started writing mid-February this year. I’m trying to build in a mixture of regular posts, typical/seasonal pieces and general bits about what we’ve been doing, problems we’re facing/have faced and things I’ve bought recently – I did say I love shopping.

What do you want your blog to achieve and where do you hope to see it go as it grows?
The only achievement I want to make is have people read and enjoy what I write. If it manages to help somebody in any way that would be a great and if anything else comes of it that’s a bonus. I didn’t set out with any kind of goal for it and will hopefully have fun seeing where it takes me.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
Depending what you want from blogging be prepared to put in the time. I never realised how much more you have to do than write posts. Be friendly and sociable and strike up conversations with other bloggers. Being active on social media is key if you want to build up readers/followers and likes.

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
1. Dave Grohl – he’s been a crush of mine for a long time and I’d like to see if he really is the nice man of rock people say he is.

2. My daughter Georgia – but only if she actually ate a proper meal. She has been a fussy eater for at least the last 6 months and this makes meal times a real struggle.

3. My Nan – she died suddenly nearly 6 years ago and I really want to tell her I love her, have her meet Georgia and tell her about Neil who she never met.

Tell me three random facts about you
1. I have a degree in Sociology and would love to go back to university.

2. I have several piercings – I had my belly button pierced because a friend bought me a belly bar thing I already had it done. I also have 2 and a scaffold bar in the top of my right ear. I had the scaffold done on the spur of the moment after a meeting for work.

3. As a young child I met Bobby Davro at Butlins, I still have the pic and autograph to prove it.
