Mummascribbles meets…Dot Makes 4 – Mummascribbles
Today we meet the lovely Laura from Dot Makes 4. Thanks so much for taking part Laura!
Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family
Hi! I’m Laura. I’m 31 and have 2 children, Mikey who’s nearly 11 and Dorothy who is 4 months old. I’ve been married for 2 years to my soulmate, Mark. We met each other at a local football match. I’d gone with my dad, saw Mark and decided that football wasn’t such a bad thing after all!
I’m part of quite a large family. I’m the eldest of 4, and have 2 brothers and 1 sister. Between us, we have 5 children
What do you like doing to be you, when you are not parenting, working (if you do), or blogging
At the moment, I’m enjoying maternity leave and being at home. When I’m not parenting, blogging or rushing around, I love to read. I’ll read anything, from books to cereal packets!
What is your biggest achievement to date?
I would say that my biggest achievement is my family. My husband is incredible, as are my children. My son is absolutely amazing. He is so funny and has overcome so much already, always with a smile on his face. My daughter, although only 4 months old is amazing to watch as she learns about the world around her.
From your own experiences, what do you find the hardest part of parenting and what is the easiest/most rewarding part?
I would say that the hardest part is giving them independence. I’m what my brother calls a ‘helicopter mum’! I hover about to make sure everything is fine, and I like to be in control, but Mikey doesn’t really appreciate it anymore! It’s no longer fine to have mum around when you’re with your friends!
The most rewarding part is when they smile and are happy. No matter how bad a day seems or whatever else is going on, seeing your child(ren) smile makes everything right with the world
Parenting in itself is no mean feat; how do you juggle everything you need to in order to get everything done on a daily basis?
I’ve only recently become a stay at home mum, but I love it! Whilst Mikey is at school, Dot and I do the housework. (Well Dot is in her chair or rolling around on her mat!) I say we do the housework, but it’s never really done. There is always something to do, especially with a 10 year old boy about the house!
Why did you decide to start blogging?
I had been thinking about writing a blog for a while, but never really thought about what to write about and worried if anyone would be interested.
I finally started to write after I had Dorothy. I had read a few blogs beforehand, and thought I would just go for it and share my experiences of parenting.
Tell me a bit about your blog?
It’s only 2 months old, and is still finding its feet! I write about our family and the things we get up to. I’ve only written a few posts, but so far I’ve written about trying to lose weight while breastfeeding, our first break away as a family of 4 and Dot who has started teething.
I’ve not run any linkys yet, but I am planning to as I’d love to get to know other bloggers and what they’re writing about.
I’ve also just finished holding my first competition. There will be more to come!
What do you want your blog to achieve and where do you hope to see it go as it grows?
I would love to see it grow as I get to know other bloggers better. I would like to collaborate more with others too, as I think that it’s great when people work together.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
I’m really new to this, but one thing I’ve learnt is to go for it. Don’t be scared about what others may think. Just write from the heart!
Also, if you have any questions, there are so many friendly people on Twitter who can help.
If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
1. My Grandad- I’ve never met him as he died when my mum was little.
2. Emma Thompson- I think she’s a brilliant actress and seems so funny in interviews. I bet she’s great fun and has great stories to tell!
3. Jane Austen- She wrote some wonderful novels and I’ve always wondered what she was really like.
Tell me three random facts about you
1. I don’t like fruit- not even apples!
2. I am very childish! I always want to play games- usually before the kids do!
3. I love to sing, usually at the top of my lungs, but I’m not very good!
