Mummascribbles meets…Training Mummy – Mummascribbles

Today we meet the lovely Shona from Training Mummy. Thanks so much for joining in Shona.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family.
Hi, I am Shona and mummy to Molly (born February 2014) and pregnant with number two (due September). I am married and we have two dogs (Jack Russells) and a cat. We all live in Angus, Scotland, in a wee town.

What do you like doing to be you, when you are not parenting, working (if you do), or blogging?
Travelling the world! Yep I would have to win the lottery but I would love to visit so many places in the world. One day we hope to move to Greece (maybe just a dream but who knows). If I wasn’t a SAHM I have no ideal what I would love to be doing.  I used to work in a local newspaper as a journalist but after four years that was enough for me.

What is your biggest achievement to date?
Other than having a baby, which I think is a worthy achievement, it would probably be getting my degree. I went to university with no idea what I wanted to do and ended up moving from course to course with no clue what I wanted to do. It was a struggle and I almost dropped out on more than one occasion but I eventually found a course I loved and ended up with a BA 2.1 (Hons).

From your own experiences, what do you find the hardest part of parenting and what is the easiest/most rewarding part?
I have to admit that with M life has been easy for us (which we are constantly told by everyone from family and friends to neighbours). I think the most rewarding things for me is seeing M with a smile on her face or hearing her giggle away. You can’t hope for much more than that? The hardest is when she is crying and not feeling well and you can’t do anything to take the pain away (I would in a heart beat). Hard when M can’t tell you what the matter is.

Parenting in itself is no mean feat; how do you juggle everything you need to in order to get everything done on a daily basis?
As a SAHM I had thought my days might be long but I can’t believe how fast time goes. During the day it is all about being a mum, chores can wait. When M naps I take some time to rest myself, get tea on, and then it all starts again. Once M goes to bed at night is when chores get done.

Why did you decide to start blogging?
I started as a way for me to document pregnancy for my memory but I never seemed to have time. It was also a great way to get advice for any pregnancy problems or finding what things I needed to buy.

Tell me a bit about your blog?
I blog over at trainingmummy.com where I tend to just write about what is happening with Molly (and now with bump) or reviews. I also hold a weekly linky, the Weekend Book Club, for people to share their book related posts (kids of adults, old or new). It opens on a Saturday at 7am and closes on a Monday at 11.55pm.

What do you want your blog to achieve and where do you hope to see it go as it grows?
I want it to be a great memory for me so that I can remember milestones, or just see how M has developed. It will also be good if I have another pregnancy to compare pregnancies and that. I would love to have my readership grow more and more of course.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
Do it for you, noone else, and don’t compare your blog to theirs.

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

1. Rowan Atkinson because he is hilarious and I loved Mr Bean as a child.

2. Dawn French because I think she would be fantastic to meet and again is hilarious.

3. Brendan O’Carroll as he seems an incredibly smart man who has gone through a lot in life but come up trumps with Mrs Brown’s Boys. It would be great to learn more about his life.

Tell me three random facts about you

1. I was 8 weeks pregnant with Molly when I got married to my hubby.

2. I can play the saxophone and own a pink one!

3. I love my sleep and so does Molly and so we get up after 10 am each day (baby number two has a lot to live up to lol)
