Mummascribbles – Mummascribbles meets…Me and B Make Tea – Mummascribbles

This week we meet the lovely Emma from Me and B Make Tea. Thanks so much for taking part Emma!

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family
Hello! My name is Emma and I blog over at Me and B Make Tea. I live in Weston-super-Mare with the hubby, mr D and the boy, little B and four crazy fluff ball cats.

What do you like doing to be you, when you are not parenting, working (if you do), or blogging?
If you’d asked me this question a year ago, I’d have said crafting, crochet and doodling. This time this year, it is blogging. Blogging is my fun time outside of work and being a mum!

What is your biggest achievement to date?
I’d have to say having my son. I didn’t think I could go through with it for a number of personal issues but I did and he is here. And for that I am super grateful!

From your own experiences, what do you find the hardest part of parenting and what is the easiest/most rewarding part?
Haha I don’t think any of it is necessarily easy! Rewarding yes, but not easy. Parenting is so much harder than I ever imagined. Hard for me was learning to be patient. I’ve never been super patient but since having B, I’ve really surprised myself! The most rewarding part of parenting for me is watching my boy grow, listening to his chatter and musings on the world around him – it’s just brilliant. And I still cant get over the fact that I grew him – with the help of hubby of course haha!!

Parenting in itself is no mean feat; how do you juggle everything you need to in order to get everything done on a daily basis?
You are right, it isn’t easy. I work four days a week and then blog most nights. I cheat a bit by having a cleaner come in once a week for two hours. She is fab as she does the kitchen and bathrooms and it frees up time for me on the weekend to spend time with B or work on the blog. I’m lucky that my hubby is very hands on and we share a lot of the boring jobs.

Why did you decide to start blogging?
Starting a blog was something I’d procrastinated about for ages actually in my working world. For me though, the subject matter doesn’t come naturally, hence it never got off the ground. I started writing “me and B” after creating some pictures out of food for B. I was also very inspired by Grace at Eats Amazing and whizzed up some of her Bento box ideas. My friends and family told me it all looked great and I should blog about it. I didn’t want to just blog about food though as at heart, I’m a rubbish cook!  Instead the blog covers a range of family and parenting stuff, with a fun food creation thrown in every now and again!

Tell me a bit about your blog?
It’s an honest document of our life really! I love chatting about our days out and I love sharing some of my tips for making meals and snacks inspiring for little ones. I love creating the fun food and having a play around with that, but I’ve also enjoyed writing about other aspects of life!

What do you want your blog to achieve and where do you hope to see it go as it grows?
I ask myself this question a lot too! Ultimately I want to enjoy what I’m doing and work on something that is mine – completely mine. I also want to provide interesting, inspiring content to other likeminded people! I love seeing my numbers increase and I love being approached for opportunities to work with brands and other bloggers – but at the heart of my blog, I want to keep it honest and real and I only want to write if I enjoy it!

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
Sometimes it’s good to take time out and not worry about linky parties, tweet chats, posting daily and social media. It can start to become all-consuming and quickly take over your life. My advice would be to try and switch off every now and again. If we have a family holiday, I schedule my social media and only do the bare minimum on social platforms while I am away. And I’ve found it is fab to have some time out and come back to the blog with fresh eyes!

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

1. Ric o’Barry. If you’ve seen the Oscar winning documentary “The Cove” then you will know who I am talking about. The work he continues to do to raise awareness of dolphin and whale captivity is just amazing. He is completely inspiring and I really hope one day we see an end to captivity of these beautiful animals.

2. Sarah Koenig. I’d just love to sit down with her and natter about Adnan Syed and the Serial podcast!

3. The comedian Jon Richardson. I think we have a lot in common and I kinda fancy him a bit 😉

Tell me three random facts about you

1. I really don’t like ice-cream that much. It is just too cold and milky.

2. I use EMLA cream if I need a blood test. They really freak me out.

3. I lived in Germany for a year while at university. I can speak German 🙂
