Mummascribbles – Mummascribbles meets…The Melton House – Mummascribbles

This week we meet the lovely Rachel from The Melton House. Thanks so much for taking part Rachel

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family
I am a 30 something living in Lancashire with my husband and little boy.  We have been married for 4 years last September.  We met online, at first I was embarrassed to tell people about how we met but now it doesn’t bother me so much.  We moved to Lancashire from Scotland 6 years ago for my work, I lived in Dundee 10 years prior to that after moving there to start university, I met my husband there as his dad was based at the nearby RAF base. I have a little brother who lives in Edinburgh & my parents live just outside Dumfries in Southern Scotland

What do you like doing to be you, when you are not parenting, working (if you do), or blogging?
I work as a mental health nurse, it is a challenging but enjoyable job.  I would love to win the lottery though! I would much prefer to be blogging when I am not parenting

What is your biggest achievement to date?
I had really bad anxiety when our little boy was born, I worked hard at overcoming that anxiety, my fear was that our little boy was going to die.  I feel that I am a much better parent and more attentive to him now

From your own experiences, what do you find the hardest part of parenting and what is the easiest/most rewarding part?
The lack of sleep – I don’t cope well without sleep but I have had to find a way to manage since we had our little boy.  Just watching him develop is the most amazing part.  He is learning every day and to enable him to do that and watch him grow is amazing

Parenting in itself is no mean feat; how do you juggle everything you need to in order to get everything done on a daily basis?
I work 12 hour shifts so on working days I completely rely on my husband.  On non-working days I get all the housework, etc done.  I wish we didn’t have to send our little boy to nursery, it costs a fortune for a start but he loves it and it has definitely helped his development

Why did you decide to start blogging?
I wanted somewhere to record our life as a family

Tell me a bit about your blog?
I am a parenting and lifestyle blogger.  I write about our life as a family and the adventures we get up to.  I also write reviews and run competitions.  I started running again after I had our little boy and have been running half marathons.  I am trying to raise money for charity and keep up my fitness.  I run a weekly Fitness Friday linky.  I also write about DIY and things that come up in our life.

What do you want your blog to achieve and where do you hope to see it go as it grows?
I was obsessed with Tots100 scores for a while but now, whilst it would be nice to climb that chart, it doesn’t matter so much.  I want to continue to develop and grow and see what happens.  As long as people like reading what I write I’m happy

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
Do it!! It can’t be quite therapeutic but do it for the right reasons and try not to get caught up in stats, etc

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

1. Jensen Ackles – he’s the only person I’m allowed to leave my husband for.  I’d probably be too giddy to actually speak to him

2. Sir Alex Ferguson – I’ve been a Man Utd fan since my dad took me to my first game when I was 8, we used to go to lots of games until I went to University and it was too far to travel.  My dad still has his season ticket though.  I’d love to hear what he thinks about the game at the moment

3. Barack Obama – His voice is so smooth.  I’d be interested in talking to him about America’s healthcare system and gun control.

Tell me three random facts about you

1. I am obsessed with American Crime shows, I have a ridiculously long to watch list

2. I am petrified of wasps – run around like a crazy person scared

3. Before I had our little boy I was competition crazy, I think it was verging on addiction, now I don’t have time!
