Mummascribbles – The Night Before Christmas book review – Mummascribbles
Our December Parragon book buddy instalment is a Christmas special and I was so excited when I opened it. I was then even more excited when I showed it to Zach and saw how excited he was by it. Basically, right now, anything Christmas related comes with major excitement by the darling three year old.
The Night Before Christmas is visually stunning from the outset – capturing the heart of a children’s Christmas by featuring Santa on the very front page. When I suggested it was time to sit down and read this, Zach agreed. Which at the moment is unusual as any story that I suggest is thrown out the window and instead we have to read something we have read a hundred times! So I already knew we were onto a winner with this one!
We sat down as usual at bedtime and begun the story and honestly, I don’t think I’ve seen him so attentive over a book in a while.
The book brings to life the classic Christmas rhyme by Clement C Moore that we all know and love.
“’Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse…”
Every page is full of magical imagery that brings Christmas to life and has children excitingly turning the page to see what comes next.
Of course there is a favourite section in the rhyme. It’s my favourite and Zach loved it too!
“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”
I absolutely loved reading this book to Zach and I think it will be read quite a lot between now and the big day. I’ll definitely be packing it to take to my mum’s on Christmas eve so we can read it before he falls asleep waiting for Santa!
We received this book as part of the Parragon book buddy club. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
