Mummascribbles – Tonight a miracle happened – Mummascribbles

It has taken two years.

Two long years of trying and failing.

Two long years of spitting and shaking of a head.

Two long years of refusals and ‘I don’t like it’.

Two long years of wasted time, wasted food and wasted money.

Tonight, a miracle happened.

Tonight, Zach ate pasta at home!

Yep, that’s right – he has always hated pasta. You know, that one food that you can make so many meals with, be it lunches or dinners. The food that is cheap and always available in restaurants and cafes in a variety of forms. Yummy, scrummy pasta that we have never managed to get any further than Zach’s lips! It’s been an instant dislike since he was tiny.

In the past couple of weeks however, whilst still refusing it at home (or anywhere with us), he has eaten it at nursery. When I was told on Thursday that not only had he eaten it but that he’d had seconds, it was time to try it at home! So tonight, the other half cooked a pasta bolognese. I confess, we used a jar of sauce because a) that’s what we eat and b) I wasn’t going to get all the ingredients to make our own if he wasn’t going to eat it!

He started with a couple of mushrooms, a bit of mince in the sauce (he’s really hit and miss with mince too!), and then he popped a piece of pasta in his mouth, chewed and swallowed! Then another one, and another, until he said…

“I like pasta don’t I?”

Hoorah!

I have no doubt that now I’ve written this I have cursed it and that next time he will probably refuse it again. But for now, for tonight, my boy finally ate  pasta at home, aged almost two years and 8 months!
