I’ve been aware of the Pampers UNICEF ‘1 pack = 1 vaccine’ annual campaign since having Zach and so I’m really excited to be teaming up with them to get their work and their campaign out via my blog.
Maternal and newborn tetanus (also known as MNT) is a preventable disease and yet it continues to claim the life of one child every nine minutes. Since 2006, the campaign has funded an incredible 300 million vaccines, eliminating the disease in 15 countries – that’s another five countries since the campaign last year! But sadly there are still babies in 24 of the world’s poorest countries at risk.
As a mum myself, I know just how wonderful it is to see your baby do a first. From the moment I gave birth, I was waiting for that first smile, that first laugh and the first word among many, many more and it’s so sad that in the world today there are still so many mum’s losing their children before they get to see any of their own.
Zach’s first smile was an absolute corker and I was so pleased that I constantly had my camera to hand so that I managed to capture it. There’s nothing better than making your child smile at any time, but that first smile is a heart-stopper!
His first Christmas was the best excuse ever to dress him up and he dealt with the experience very well. Sadly, he didn’t stay in it very long as he got too hot but at least there is photographic evidence!
Maybe his best first to date, was his first hen do! He wasn’t supposed to be there, it was supposed to be a mummy day and night out but of course, he decided he wasn’t interested in taking the bottle and only wanted mummy’s boobs – I think he just didn’t want to miss out on having a funky headpiece made for him!

His first steps came 2 days after his 1st birthday and boy he learnt quick. I’ve heard that some babies forget that they even took their steps but with him, he’d taken 6 by the end of the day and then worked on running! Here’s a little video of him enjoying our long hallway in our old flat!
Zach’s 1st steps
His most recent first was the haircut which I blogged all about here. As you can see from his face, He really didn’t like it – even though he got to sit in a cool car!
There have been so many firsts that we have got to enjoy, from first teeth to first words (which bizarrely was water followed by highchair shortly after!), and I feel very blessed that we have been able to see all of these in his little life so far. Some people don’t get this luxury and that’s why eliminating maternal and newborn tetanus is so important to help many more mothers see their children’s firsts.
For every view of this blog post, Pampers will donate the cost of 3 vaccines to UNICEF. So please share this post wherever you can and get as many vaccines to these mothers and babies as possible.
Emma Bunton has climbed on board this campaign for the second year running and you can see her video about the campaign at http://bit.ly/1t7EvIX.
There is also a seriously cute video from Pampers featuring many gorgeous babies and if you click on the link to watch it THEY’LL DONATE ANOTHER VACCINE! So click, click, click on http://bit.ly/1vjqHQc
And next time your baby does a first, please remember this campaign. The sad parts and the happy parts. And let’s hope that when we see this campaign come around again next year, another 5 (or even more) countries have eliminated this disease.
