Our weekend happy – a chilled out one with a few bits and bobs thrown in! – Mummascribbles

This weekend probably wasn’t the most exciting to write about. Everyone except me had a bit of a cold, Oscar was in particular still suffering, and there was still a huge lack of sleep for me! That said, there is always something to write about so here we go.

Saturday 26th January

So the boys and I were up early on Saturday and the other half was up just a little later. It was our usual swimming and rugby and we were running really late this time. We rushed up there, Zach got in the pool and he did really well – this time doing a bit of swimming without floats (although aided by his teacher), and then Oscar went into rugby a little late because he was a bit poorly and we thought there was no need to make him do the running up and down bit! He still managed to have a good time though!

At the end of the session, we popped to the cafe to grab a couple of bits of food because we hadn’t had breakfast and we were heading straight out. Oscar decided to fall over on the way to the car and got himself all muddy, which required half an outfit change, making us a bit later for our appointment.

We jumped in the car, drove the fifteen minute journey and arrived at the venue where we are having our wedding reception. When we originally booked it we were having it in one room. It has now all changed, they are converting one of their other rooms into a proper purpose built function room, and we wanted to see how it was coming along to try and get an idea of how it will be for the wedding next year (I still can’t believe I am actually getting married next year).

We had a peek at the room from through a door because it’s a building site, and sat and had a chat with the event manager who talked us through what was happening, when it was happening, and some bits and bobs that we wanted to discuss. We came away super happy and super excited because it looks like it is going to be even better than it was when we booked it 🙂

Oscar had decided to have a massive poo which required the other half of a costume change, and that delayed us leaving somewhat – meaning that it was a mad rush to get Zach to performing arts. The initial plan was that I was going to drop the other half and Oscar back home so he could take him out for his nap, but alas – he fell asleep in the car. So the plans changed, we took Zach to performing arts and sat in the car for an hour and a half – the other half watching stuff on his phone and me reading my book!

I then went in to get Zach, Oscar was awake when we got back to the car, and we then spent ten minutes trying to persuade him to put his arms back in so I could actually drive the car. Eventually he did and off home we went. The other half and I were pretty hangry by this point, so we were straight in the kitchen making lunch before we all sat down to eat.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty much the boys playing, destroying the house, me cleaning the rabbit out after a quick trip to Pets At Home, and then the other half and Zach went to the chippy in the pouring rain and brought us back a yummy scrummy dinner.

Dinner was followed by a shower for Oscar and bed for the very tired pair of them!

Sunday 27th January

It was supposed to be my lay in day, however – with Oscar being super clingy since last week, I kind of knew it wasn’t going to happen. And I was right. I was awake at 5.30, up at 5.40, and he would not let me go back to bed when the other half tried to swap with me. There was no point in us both being up, so the other half went back to bed and whilst he was up there the boys watched technology and I had a massive cup of tea and filled in some parts of my wedding planner that needed updating.

I sent the boys up at 8.15 to wake him up and he came downstairs, played Guess Who whilst I made us all breakfast (well, the boys’ third), and then we got showered and ready.

Whilst I was in the shower, the other half got Oscar dressed which resulted in an absolute meltdown – I could hear him screaming and crying. He is just so tired and run down from this cold and lack of sleep that the smallest thing sets him into meltdown mode.

He came upstairs with me and I managed to calm him down with a bit of distraction, and once he seemed to be out of it, the boys had a wrestle with Daddy and then we went downstairs, got him in his buggy and headed out. We walked him round the block and then once he was asleep, walked over the road to Homebase as we had a few bits to buy. Zach loved looking around all the kitchens that we couldn’t afford (or fit!), and then he and the other half went home while I quickly popped to Sainsbury’s to grab lunch.

Lunch was made as soon as I got home, we thought Oscar was going to wake up but actually he slept for two and a half hours, and then he finally woke up just before my Sister arrived. I’d asked if she was free to pop round for a cuppa and she spent a few hours with us. It was chaos, the kids were a nightmare, but we managed to have a bit of a chat and the boys loved seeing her.

She left just as it was time to cook the roasties, and then I swapped places with the other half for a while, getting all snuggled up with Oscar on the sofa watching Bear Hunt while Zach played with his Lego.

Once dinner was eaten it was time for the boys to get ready for bed and then we had our usual Sunday night before bed!

It wasn’t the most exciting weekend. The weather was rubbish, everyone was a bit run down, and there may have been quite a bit of shouting. But there were elements of a happy weekend!
