Our weekend happy – a nursery open morning, fun in the park and a lazy afternoon – Mummascribbles
Saturday started out a bit different this week because Oscar no longer had rugby. So that we didn’t confuse him, we decided that I would take Zach to swimming alone, so we got ready and went out to the leisure centre for his lesson, leaving the other half and Oscar at home to have some fun. I believe they played trains and done a bunch of other stuff while we were gone, and when we arrived home, the other half jumped in the shower while I ate some breakfast.
We then got the boys in their coats and took a walk over to the pre-school/nursery next door to Zach’s school because they had an open morning for the September 2019 intake, which is Oscar’s. Technically we aren’t due to start him until January when we get funding, but we might put him in a couple of mornings a week from September if we can financially.
He had an absolute ball there (as did his brother). Getting stuck into all of the activities they had set out, and exploring the outdoor spaces. I have no doubt that when he does go, he will absolutely love it.

Neither boys wanted to leave, but I needed to get Zach to performing arts, so I managed to drag him and get him home to the car, and we left the other two playing for a while longer. We got to performing arts nice and early, and then Zach went into class and I finished reading the last few chapters of my book. I’m so chuffed that I have finally managed to read a whole book!

Once he was out of class, we drove home and Oscar was still fast asleep – as was the other half!

I made us some lunch and we sat upstairs for a while, and then I decided that Oscar was having way too long a nap for my liking, so we went and gently woke him.
Someone had left the stair gate open, and he decided he wanted to go straight upstairs and the pair of them ended up having loads of fun playing dens in their bunk beds, and hide and seek too.

The other half had started cleaning the fish tank out and then the boys wanted to go downstairs and get in his way! They played quite nicely to be fair, and then he was finally done and it was time to do dinner. Sausage and mash was cooked, eaten (mostly by us!), and then we popped Oscar in the shower before we put them to bed.

We were going to have a bottle of wine, but neither of us was really in the mood. I still have a sore throat and we were both tired. So I sat and got on with some client work while watching The Voice, and the other half played computer games.
Sunday 17th February
I didn’t have the best night with Oscar and I was very tired when I got up. The other half clearly realised, because he got up, came downstairs, and sent me back to bed. For some reason my legs were really aching (must have been how I slept), and I couldn’t get comfy, but I did manage to get to sleep and woke up after about 50 minutes. Then again, I couldn’t get comfy but found myself back in dreamworld again, until I woke up at about 9.30. I could hear the other half making me a cup of tea, and then they all came up to wake me! I got up and went downstairs, drank my tea, toasted some hot cross buns and the other half jumped in the shower.
Zach had decided he wanted to go to the park, and that he wanted to go right then. I wasn’t ready so the other half took both the boys out for a couple of hours and had loads of fun together.
I meanwhile, had a nice relaxing shower and had an hour long phone conversation with my sister without getting a single interruption from a child. It was wonderful to have a catch up!
Not long after I’d got off the phone and dried my hair, they arrived back. Oscar fast asleep and Zach ready for a sit down. So I took him upstairs and the other half made some lunch which we ate on the bed.
Oscar had decided to go in for another mammoth nap, and so after a while we went downstairs to see what Daddy was doing. He was out cleaning the rabbit out and doing a spot of gardening, and so I made a start on cleaning the bathroom while Zach stayed with me and watched the iPad. And Oscar kept sleeping, so after a while we had to gently wake him up again. Thankfully he woke up in a very good mood and I was able to continue cleaning whilst they played together.
Once I was done, I had a cup of tea and then it was time for me to start cooking the lasagne while the other half entertained the kids again (he was a proper ledge yesterday that one!).
Dinner was served and straight afterwards, seeing as there was some spare time before bedtime, I decided to hoover the house! I finished as the boys were getting ready, so then it was story time and bedtime – followed by an evening on the sofa with the laptop and Dancing on Ice.
We had a very simple but pretty fun weekend. And it felt really good that the boys got some serious time with Daddy 🙂
