Our weekend happy – athletics, swimming, and park fun! – Mummascribbles

The day started in a mad rush to get Zach to swimming because everyone woke up late! I managed to get him there, although Oscar was not happy about me leaving for some reason, and he had a meltdown for poor Daddy.

Zach had a great lesson. He did some really great swimming on his back and his arm techniques are getting so much better. Once the lesson was over and he was all ready, we popped to the cafe and then we went home where he gave Oscar the rest of the chocolate wafers that we had bought, because I had promised Oscar that we would bring him something back.

We ate some food, the other half popped to the shops, and then it was time to go to performing arts. Again, Oscar wasn’t happy about me leaving but the tantrum was less this time.

It was Zach’s last early stages session because in September he is moving up to the main school. Well, he will be doing a two week trial just to make sure that he is happy in the big class, but I think he will be absolutely fine!

I needed to take Zach off early as we were going out, so at 12.30 I got him out of class and we dashed off back home. The other half and Oscar were ready and waiting for us and we went straight down to the train station to get our train to Stratford where we were going to the athletics at the Olympic stadium. We were meeting my sister, nephew and mum there for an afternoon of fun and the boys were super excited!

We saw loads of athletics! Javelin, pole vaulting, long jump, triple jump, hurdles, 100m, 1500m and much more! We saw Laura Muir win, Johnny Peacock win, and several other fab British performances! It was absolutely fab!

The boys had hot dogs and ice cream, we had a cider, and it was just an all round lovely afternoon (with a little bit of whingeing from the boys who were tired).

Once it was all over, we slowly headed to the train station as they were letting people out in sections, and we managed to make the train home with two very moody kids!

Once home, the other half started dinner while I popped to the shop for humous. I also picked up a bottle of wine for later!

We had dinner, got the boys to bed and then opened said wine and watched A Star Is Born which was far more traumatising that I expected it to be!

Sunday 21 July

Well Sunday started early for all. I was awake from 5.15, although not up as Oscar was busy sleeping right up next to me. The other half and Zach were up at 6, and when we finally went down at 7, they were busy doing science experiments which Oscar soon joined in with.

We all had some breakfast, and the other half and I snuck outside to eat al fresco (although we weren’t alone for long).

We had decided that we would take the boys swimming, so we got ourselves all ready and went to the leisure centre. We all had a fab time. Zach showed off his swimming, Oscar did great, and the other half and I had a bit of a swim too.

Once we were finished and had gone through the trauma of getting everyone showered, dried and dressed, we popped to the cafe and then out to the park for some more fun.

Eventually it was time to go, although Oscar wasn’t keen on the idea and had a bit of a meltdown because he was pretty tired by that point. When we got home, we popped them both on the sofa for a rest, thinking that Oscar might nod off, but he didn’t. The other half popped out to get lunch, and then made it all when he got home as I had been summoned to the sofa with the boys!

Once lunch was over, the boys went out into the garden to play some footie and cricket with Daddy, and then I started work on the house, clearing up and hoovering the downstairs! I slunk outside at one point to have my cheeky chocolate cake and cup of tea, and then carried on with the hoovering again!

Once I was done, the other half popped some bits into the loft, as did I – and then he quickly mowed the lawn. The kids were sort of a mixture of playing, arguing, being rude, etc. Zach ended up being sent upstairs as dinner was cooking, and although he had a meltdown, it actually ended pretty well because he took it upon himself to have a little sort out of their room!

Dinner was had, nappies were changed, teeth were brushed, and it was time for them to go to bed. Once they were asleep, we went downstairs and I did some work while watching the second Mamma Mia, and the other half had a computer playing session!

It was a bit of a chaotic weekend, but it was really great. Especially the athletics – Zach is now convinced that he is a massive sport fan haha!!
