Our weekend happy – rain, shows, and a park trip! – Mummascribbles
Well it was beautiful weather to wake up to – not! We were all up pretty early and we all got ready, which meant that the other half could accompany the boys and I to their swimming lessons. They had good lessons and then had follow up fun in the cafe with their friends. We popped home afterwards and I got Zach’s stuff together for performing arts and then took him on up there while Oscar did some finger painting and sticking.

Once I was back home, I braved the weather and took the dog for a walk. I got very wet quite quick and then suddenly the rain dried up and the sun came out which made for a much more pleasant walk.
When I got back, the other half popped to the shops to grab some bits for lunch and I sat with the little man who was having some iPad time. Once the other half was home, lunch was made and eaten and then it was time for me to go and get Zach. Just as I was driving up the road, the heavens opened and there was a massive hail storm! Thankfully it stopped the minute I pulled into the car park and I didn’t get hailed on when I went in to get Zach.
When we got back home, we knew it was going to be an afternoon indoors. The weather was on and off all afternoon and even though we knew being cooped up indoors isn’t always the best, we dealt with it! Zach did a lot of shows, the pair of them played, and Zach and I did some of his puzzle book, working on a crossword before I had to start dinner.
Once the lasagne was in the oven, I took the dog out for his late afternoon walk and managed to get the last of the daylight over the field before it started getting dark, and then when I got back, dinner was ready to be dished. And afterwards, it was time for bed for the boys! We then spent the evening doing our usual stuff before I was summoned upstairs by Oscar!
Sunday 1st March
It was another morning where we got ready (amidst some Zach and Oscar shows) and it meant the other half could come to football with us. He hasn’t been for ages so it was nice for him to get to do all the games with Oscar. I sat chatting to my friend who I know through the many playgroups we attended together (her little one also plays footie), and Zach was sitting with her other son who he gets on really well with.
At the end of the session, we all jumped in the car and drove home, had a very early lunch, and then we jumped back in the car with the dog and drove up to the park to take him for a walk and let the kids have a bit of outdoor time. It was a completely dry day, the sun was out at times, and they had a blast! We walked round, went to the Mound, popped to the cafe where they got ice cream and I got a hot chocolate, and then a final little run round the field for Buster before we went back home again. We were there for a good couple of hours and had a lovely time!

Back home and I popped out to the shops as we had forgotten to get potatoes for our roast, and I took way longer than I was supposed to in the hunt for antibacterial hand gel! I didn’t find any but did find some wipes so stocked up on them (the coronavirus is now in our county so I am doing all I can to keep us healthy without confining us to the house!). I got back home and Oscar had just fallen asleep on the sofa! So I very meanly woke him up and he happily sat and watched the iPad for a while. Zach and I played a game of Cluedo while the other half cooked the roast, and we also spoke to my Mum as Zach was missing her since she hadn’t been round on the Friday. The dog had a well deserved snooze!

It was then dinner time and then soon after we were getting the boys ready for bed. We took them upstairs nice and early so we could have a longer reading time, and then Oscar took blimming ages getting to sleep. Zach was doing his puzzle book in bed and just as I was drifting off to sleep myself, he asked if Oscar was asleep and I realised it was past his bedtime! So off went his lamp and down he laid.
Time for me to go downstairs where I made a cuppa and watched Dancing on Ice before watching a bit of Deep Blue Sea which I randomly found on Comedy Central! Then I got simply too tired and I went to bed, closely followed by the other half. I struggled to get to sleep and I was soon up again with Oscar who woke up and wanted me. Then I did fall asleep fine!
It was a good weekend. I am glad we finally had a nice day so we could get out and about. There is only so much soft play you can do on these rainy weekends, and to be honest, I will be steering clear of those at the moment!
