Our weekend happy – The performance, a birthday party, and a Mother's Day with family – Mummascribbles
Well we had a pretty busy Saturday planned but unfortunately, Oscar had a very bad night and I spent most of it with him asleep on me on the sofa! So when we had to start our day and get ready for swimming, I was not ready!

I did however manage to get ready in time to get Zach to swimming, and Oscar, who was very tired and peaky, stayed home with the other half. After swimming, we went straight back home, grabbed some brekkie, and then Zach and I nipped to the shop to pick up a card and present for his friend whose birthday party he was going to later. We didn’t have long to do it though, because we had to get to performing arts for 11.15.
The other half and Oscar were due to come with us this week because we had Zach’s performance to watch towards the end of the lesson. We were initially just going to skip Oscar’s nap, but since he had such a rough night, we thought that was probably going to be a bad idea. So, the other half decided to pop him in the buggy and walk there. It’s a good 45 minute walk so we figured he would fall asleep and have a decent nap.
So, off I went with Zach, and the other half popped some washing on and then left with Oscar. And when they arrived, he was beautifully asleep. Zach had been doing his dress rehearsal whilst I had been waiting, but I made sure not to take a sneaky peek because I didn’t want to ruin anything. And then at about 12.25, we were all called in. Oscar was still asleep, so we took the seats at the back and popped him behind us where there was space for the buggy.
The show was fabulous. Zach was amazing. I was the proudest Mum ever, watching him play the part of Branch. And there were tears in my eyes watching him act, and sing, and dance. And the other half and Oscar (who woke up five minutes before the end) were incredibly proud too.

Afterwards, we spoke to his teachers who gave him such high praise and informed us that he is very talented and needs to go to Sylvia Young when he’s older. I guess we are bankrupt for life haha!
We then all went to the car and drove home, Oscar still feeling very peaky, and Zach excited for the afternoon birthday party that was starting at 1.30pm.
When we got home, I ate some hot cross buns, wrapped the presents, helped the other half hang the washing out, and then I took Zach down to the party, which was at the church hall at the end of our road where we had held the boys joint party last year!

Zach had a fab time. He danced, he ran around, he popped balloons, he played games, and he ate a shocking amount of sweets! I sat chatting to one of the school Mum’s for the majority of the time, and then after three hours of fun (and me pinching some of the sweets to keep me going), we left and went home.

Oscar had spent the whole time laying on Daddy on the sofa, although he did perk up a bit and they had a play together in the garden.
Neither of them were hugely hungry, so we popped a few chicken nuggets and waffles in and they had a nibble (Zach moreso than Oscar), and then we had a chill out on the sofa before it was time for a shower for Zach (to remove the face-paint and sweat!), and then it was up to bed for them.
They fell asleep pretty much as soon as their heads hit their pillows and we escaped off downstairs. The other half wrapped my presents for the morning because I had been a bit disgruntled by the fact that there were presents that hadn’t been wrapped and I’d have to wait until later in the morning! I knew Zach would wake up wanting to give me them so it just made sense! And then we ordered a chinese, I wrote half of this post whilst waiting for it, and watched The Voice too. And then, when the time was right, we went to bed, with the full knowledge that we would be losing a whole hour of much needed sleep!
Sunday 31st March
Well what a fantastic start to Mother’s Day I had. Oscar slept through the night for the first time in his two and a half years! He’s slept for long periods before, but never, ever from the moment he’s gone to sleep right through until the morning! It was amazing. I got to spend the whole night in my bed 🙂
Once everyone had woken up, Zach wanted to give me my presents. He hadn’t written my card so he went downstairs with the other half and Oscar, and then five or so minutes later they reappeared with gifts, the card, and a cup of tea. I opened my presents and I was chuffed with what I had. Two books, and gorgeous Willow Tree ornament of a mother cuddling her sons – allwhich were organised by the other half. And then I had a little necklace, a gorgeous mug, and a little bag of chocolate hearts that Zach had bought from the Mother’s Day sale at school on Friday. Even though I loved all of my presents, the ones he chose himself were just the best – because he picked them 🙂
We then all went downstairs and I had to jump in the shower so I could get Oscar to football. We went up there, running just a few minutes late and despite me not thinking he was up for the session, he had a great time and participated in the whole thing. There is nothing that will stop that boy playing football!
Once the session was over, we went straight home (despite him wanting to go to the park), and the other half and Zach were at the shops, so I made some breakfast for myself, a cheese sarnie for him, even though he actually didn’t really want it despite requesting it, and then I started cleaning because the other half’s family were due over from around midday. The other two came home and Zach did a lot of moaning that he was bored and constantly asking when everyone was coming.
Eventually, Nanny and Grandad arrived, but that didn’t stop his constantly asking when his cousins were getting here! Originally my Mum, my Sister and my Nephew were supposed to coming too but unfortunately my Mum has been poorly with a sore throat and so she couldn’t make it. And because my Sister didn’t want her being alone on Mother’s Day, she went over to see her.
So Nanny and Grandad were round and then finally the other half’s brother and co arrived and the kids immediately went out into the garden. They pretty much stayed out there all afternoon, every now and then running through the house as they were playing hide and seek. There was a lot of laughing, a lot of fun, and the odd fall out. Us adults meanwhile, were able to sit in the front room and chat. It’s so nice because all the kids are old enough to just play everywhere together now, so we can actually sit and relax without being disturbed too much.
We had food – sausage rolls, ribs, chicken wings, mozzarella sticks. Lots of tasty delights followed by cake! At the cake point, I rounded everyone into the front room and asked our two nieces and nephew whether they would be my bridesmaids and page boy. They were so thrilled bless them 🙂
Cake was had, more tea, more play, and then it was time for everyone to head home. Once they had gone (always easier said than done), our two tired boys had a chill out. Zach made a project book (with my help), and Oscar watched the tablet whilst being pretty moody!
And then it was finally time for them to go to bed where they fell asleep within moments. I spent the night on the laptop, and the other half on the computer. And then it was time for two tired parents to go to bed too, ready for the week ahead!
It was a really lovely weekend. It was such a shame my family couldn’t join us on Mother’s Day but we all had a lovely time 🙂
