Siblings (September 2017) – Mummascribbles
Well, here we are in September and as of yesterday, my boys have been siblings for a whole year! Can you believe that Oscar is one? I know I can’t.
There has been a major shift in our home lives this month with Zach starting school and it’s been really interesting to see the change in dynamic, and whether it had any effect on either of my boys.
Oscar obviously adores his big brother and so I thought it may be him that it had the biggest effect on but I am pleased to report that so far so good. Oscar seems to love the time alone at home, with all the toys to himself and sometimes some special time in Zach’s room playing with his train set whilst the owner of it is out of the house! I always noticed that when Zach was at nursery for his two days a week, Oscar was a lot quieter, like he was really missing his brother’s presence but thankfully that no longer seems to be the case and he is his usual chirpy, noisy self!
The other thing I was worried about was Zach being away from the home for five days a week and feeling like it was unfair that his brother got to stay home. Again, thankfully this hasn’t happened and in fact, such a conversation hasn’t even happened. Zach has been so taken with school that he has barely even thought about us pair at home.
But, what is lovely is the time that they are together. They still adore each other and whilst frustrations do come out of the pair of them when they are fighting over a toy, most of the time, their relationship is a gorgeous one.
One of the fun things for them both is doing the school run. The walk there is always a fun one with Oscar excitedly watching Zach walking along. Then in the playground Zach will always give his brother a kiss goodbye before he goes bouncing into class. And when we go to pick him up, well they are both so happy to see each other. Only once Oscar has been asleep and so the rest of the time, Zach comes running out shouting ‘Muuuummy, Oscaaaar’! And Oscar is usually bouncing up and down and screeching when he sees his brother running towards him. It really is gorgeous to watch!
And so the transition to school has happened and from next week Zach will be out of the house even longer, meaning that I need to make sure that the precious time that they do get to spend together, is indeed precious!
Here are a bunch of my favourite shots this month!
