That's how I do it! – Mummascribbles
Just recently, I’ve had a few comments of I don’t know how you do it? when I’ve mentioned the madness of being a full time working mummy.
Firstly, I have no choice! Dean works an hour and a half away (if the trains are behaving) and he also doesn’t drive so it would be impossible for him to even share half of the running around!
Secondly, I have a secret weapon. My Mum!
Honestly, I don’t know what we’d do without her.
For starters she saves us an absolute fortune in nursery fees and if it wasn’t for her looking after Zach 3 days a week for next to nothing, we would never have been able to get our house.
Secondly, she goes beyond what is classed as normal childcare. When I’m on conference, she picks Zach up before 7am, has him all day and then brings him back home for when Dean gets home.
In order for me to ever be able to go out after work, she again drops Zach home for me. It doesn’t happen very often but I mostly know that the option is there if I need it.
Just last night she brought Zach home for us so we could go and view the results from our recent photoshoot.
On the odd weekend when we need a babysitter, I do my utmost to not ask her, but alas, while we go bowling and for dinner this Saturday to celebrate our recent birthdays, she’ll be looking after him for us (we could have taken him but I knew we’d struggle to keep him off the bowling lane!).
When my Dad died in 2012, my mum decided not to return to work. They’d been pretty crap at giving her time off at a horrendous time of her life and losing Dad like we did made her realise that life really is too short and so she offered to be our main source of childcare for our boy. And I simply can’t thank her enough.
Some people refer to me as extremely lucky to have her as Zach’s main carer but of course, I would much rather have my Dad here, Mum working, us living in rented accommodation and Zach in full time nursery, but sadly it just didn’t happen that way.
Zach absolutely loves spending his days with Nannie and her dogs and he’s such a happy boy. She even takes him to a little music class once a week
So the answer to that question of how on earth do you do it? is all thanks to my mum. And I probably don’t say it enough in this madly rushed world I live in but really, we couldn’t do it without you!
