The big meet! – Mummascribbles
Those who have been talking about it for a while have been referring to it as the dreaded ‘c’ word. I think that as it’s now the end of November, I can happily refer to it as Christmas.
Up until now I haven’t really thought about it, I mean, I’ve bought a few presents (all for Zach!), and I know it’s fast approaching but it’s been at the back of my mind…until yesterday!
Yesterday, the magic of Christmas weaved it’s way in. The magic of Christmas with a child in tow, made me extremely excited!
It’s been hard to get too excited the previous two years because Zach was too young. I wasn’t sure that he’d be completely into it this year but I’ve been trying to build up the knowledge and excitement of it all and that’s why yesterday, we went to meet the man himself. He’d seen him before but only while wandering through a shopping centre but now he’s met Santa for real
I had absolutely no idea how it would go. Zach usually takes time to be comfortable in new surroundings, sometimes he is really wary of what’s going on and gets upset. I spent the last few days telling him that we were going to see him, talking about him and making it as exciting as possible but I was still preparing myself for tears! We took him over to a local garden centre (which is awesome and so Christmassy – it even has an ice rink!), and of course it was absolutely lashing down with rain but we didn’t let that stop us! Upon arriving at the grotto, we were welcomed by a team of Elves who asked Zach his name and age and if it was the first time he’d met Santa.
After a few minutes, we were ushered through to the big man himself and I really needn’t have worried about Zach’s reaction as he was absolutely fine. We sat down on little stools next to Santa (no sitting on his lap these days!), and Santa asked Zach a few questions, all of which he answered in a very cute, quiet voice. We then had a family photo with him and then he got a little present and the promise of more on Christmas Day.
Upon leaving the grotto, I couldn’t have had a happier boy and I was a very happy mummy. I had honestly envisaged many tears and clinginess but it couldn’t have been more different. I really hope it’s helped him to understand exactly who Santa is and that from this year onwards, our Christmases will be purely magical.
After leaving the grotto (and us spending lots of money of a photo, keyring and magnet!), he then had his first ever ride on a carousel which he absolutely loved. As we went round and round, he was saying up and down, up and down and laughing lots.
To say he had an awesome day is an understatement – especially when we went to a particular supermarket afterwards to use their double up points offer to buy him a bunch of clothes and some extra presents!
Rainy days out can be fun – it was quite nice to get home to a warm house and a stew in the slow cooker though!
Have your little ones been to see Santa yet this year? How did they get on?
