The Teletubbies are back – and we got a sneak preview! – Mummascribbles

I have been very fortunate in all of the things that have come my way through this little blog over the past year and a bit but it’s always a little extra special when it means taking Zach somewhere that will excite him. When I was invited to the premiere of the brand new series of the Teletubbies, I knew that this was such an occasion that would do exactly that and I knew that I had to say yes immediately.  So all three of us were popped onto the guest list and today was the day of the event.

We made our way up to the BFI on the Southbank which is approximately five minutes from where I work  (I should have just stayed there since I’ll be back in the morning!), Zach once again excited to be travelling on the trains. We hadn’t told him where we were going as I wanted it to be a surprise. I did have doubts because sometimes when he goes to places he gets all clingy but it seems that I didn’t need to worry this time.

When we arrived, the Teletubbies were outside and he saw them straight away. It’s the Teletubbies, he said, followed by look it’s Laa Laa. He was SO excited!

In the entrance to the BFI there were bubbles everywhere which he of course loved!

We did have a bit of a tantrum to deal with (yay!) because the Teletubbies were on the red carpet doing the press stuff and he wanted to go to them! We managed to get him inside though where it was packed full of equally excited children. There were a couple of areas of fun which included a colouring area and some tunnels along with some food and drink at the bar. Zach chose the fruit over the tubby custard and we had some pastries!

He also got given his own Teletubbies headband in the colour of Laa Laa!

It was then that we were called through to the cinema where we awaited the premiere of the new series.

And then on came Cat from Cbeebies who interviewed the people behind the scenes of creating this. It was asked why they had decided to make a new series and the simple answer was that all of the previous ones were made before the invention of high definition and so eventually these episodes would no longer be used.

Then it was time…the Teletubbies came to the stage. Zach was so happy,  craning his neck to see them while waving and saying eh oh!

And then, finally it was time for the screening. We were treated to two episodes. The new series is very much like the original, it has the same concept, the same characters and the same location.  It’s been updated though, it’s beautiful in HD and they’ve thrown in a tubby train (Zach was so happy!) and also a tubby phone – it is the smartphone for Teletubbies! They also have a brand new sun baby!
Zach was mesmerised the whole way through while also managing to ask a million questions – mainly where had the real Teletubbies gone!

After a lot of clapping, Cat informed us that the Teletubbies were outside,  waiting for photos!  Yep,  Zach was to get to meet them! The queue was pretty huge but we patiently waited as he was desperate to meet Laa Laa! He was so thrilled when he did but sadly I failed to get a photo of the two of them hugging which was so cute! I did get this one though!

We then headed out and somehow I got right in front of some filming cameras who decided to interview me! I was shockingly bad being completely unprepared and Zach spent the whole duration saying mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy! I have no idea if the interview will actually end up anywhere but if you come across it, let me know!

It transpired at the end of the interview that the reason Zach had been calling me repeatedly was because he’d realised that he’d forgotten to ask Laa Laa if she was going on more adventures!  Cue us desperately trying to get near to them again so he could ask her! The other half managed to get him up to the press area barriers where he asked Po instead. The response was eh oh which satisfied Zach!

We had such a wonderful morning and it felt like such a huge privilege to be able to do this for Zach.

Thank you so much to the lovely organisers of this event for inviting us along. You made one todder very happy.

The new series of the Teletubbies begins in the second week of November and will be on at 7.30am.
