The two year check and a very proud mummy – Mummascribbles

I received the letter in the post a couple of weeks ago and today was the day for Zach’s two year assessment with the health visitors. Along with the letter there was quite a long questionnaire that we had to fill in. I realised upon reading this questionnaire last night, that I was supposed to do it with Zach present so there was a few questions I had to answer this morning when he could prove himself to me!

The questionnaire has questions like:

* If you ask your child to close the door, do they? * Can your child build at least seven blocks in a tower?

* If you draw a line, can your child copy that line in the correct direction?

And many, many more!

This morning, ten minutes before his appointment, I managed to get Zach to do the ones I couldn’t fill in without him and off we toddled, having thrown his clothes on and him having wolfed his breakfast down (he woke up half an hour before the appointment!) – thankfully, the health centre is ltiterally at the end of our road!

A few minutes after arriving, we went into the assessment room where it was set out for him to prove some of the skills I said that he can do! It was like I was being tested as to whether I was telling the truth about him! Luckily, he proved me right and also showed me something I didn’t know he could do alone. Throughout the 45 minutes that we were in there, my little man was an abslute gem and even treated the HV to a stinky poo! He was chattering away, making us cups of tea with the little playset and was just absolutely charming. The health visitor told me that he’s a clever little boy, she has absolutely no concerns about him and that there will be no more checks here on in but that if I have any concerns, I am welcome to go straight to them. Upon leaving, she told me what a lovely little boy he is. At that moment, I think I was the proudest mum in the whole of the land. My heart was literally bursting with pride. Had she of seen me struggling to get my rigid, wriggling toddler into his buggy outside, she may have thought differently!

But then, he made me even prouder. After I’d done a little bit of shopping and let him have a go on the Thomas ride, I told him he could walk home as long as he walked, held my hand when I asked him to and didn’t mess around. He actually listened to me and it was wonderful. We even popped into the library and chose some new library books. He walked, did some jumping (which I prefer to his running at speed and falling on his face!) and held my hand when we needed to cross the road and also down the underpass where I knew he’d go flat on his face if he tried to run down the steep slope!

So there we have it, the check was nothing to worry about, it was wonderful hearing such positive things about my gorgeous little man and we had a lovely little morning together before he went off to his nannie’s while I spend the afternoon at home working.

Such a proud mummy today 🙂
