Waking up is hard to do! – Mummascribbles
Mummy, go away, were the first three words that came out of my toddlers’ mouth this morning. Trying to get him to wake up in the morning is like trying to wake a teenager for school. It doesn’t help that he fights sleep at night and so rather than fall asleep before 8pm, he scratches, talks, asks for cuddles, tells us the cuddles need to stop, asks for cuddles again and rolls over at least 100 times before he finds his comfy spot and finally caves into sleep around 8.30 – 8.45. This is not ideal of course. He clearly needs a good 12 hour kip at the moment and has done for a while but unfortunately, come 7am throughout the week, we are having to drag him (not quite kicking and screaming), out of bed.
So, mummy go away is just one sentence in a long line of things he has said when he doesn’t want to get up!
Noooo, close the curtains is another that happened this morning.
We often get Zach is still sleeping thrown at us when we go into his room and he’s bunched his knees underneath him because that’s his little sign that he is not ready!
Don’t want to go to Nannie’s and don’t want to go to nursery also feature regularly, even though we know (and remind him) that he does want to go to nannie’s or nursery because he has a blimmin great day and all he needs to do is wake up properly to realise!
Turn the lights off is also a regular one.
There’s no doubt that one of the things I feel most guilty about having to go to work is having to wake him up before he’s ready to wake up and having to watch him being sad for a few minutes before he acclimatises to the new day. It is very rare nowadays that he wakes up before us during the week. We mostly have to go in and wake him up, put his jumper on and get him in the car in his pj’s (unless it’s a nursery day as we obviously get him dressed!). He sits in the car with little tired eyes. I do get the odd word out of him but mostly he just sits, staring out the window. It’s only when he arrives at the destination, he really wakes up and is ready for the day!
It really does feel like we are witnessing what is coming our way in about 11 years time!
