10 things you didn't know about me – Mummascribbles
Thanks to Chirps from a Little Red Hen and Diary of an Imperfect Mum for tagging me in ’10 things you didn’t know about me’. It’s always a bit of fun when these posts do the rounds! I’m doing both sets of questions in the one post!
Questions from Chirps from a Little Red Hen…
What’s your favourite room in your home?
Zach’s bedroom is definitely my favourite. We only moved into our house last year and it’s the only room we’ve managed to decorate! It is the most super cool bedroom for a toddler and I’m really proud of the other half for spending hours on the mural painting. You can read all about it here.
What makes a perfect sandwich?
Fresh, thick, soft, squishy white bread with freshly cooked scrambled eggs! That is my absolute favourite and one I have when I’m particularly hungry!
What is your favourite thing to do on a rainy day?
Cosy up indoors, put a film on, make a cup of tea and have some yummy biccies! Of course, with a toddler who doesn’t really get the whole watching a film business, it would also include getting the paints out and playing with his toys together! Assuming this rainy day is a weekend of course, if it’s a weekday I have no choice to just get wet on route to and from work!
If you were only able to wear one item of make up, what would it be?
Mascara. I simply cannot live without mascara! I have the shortest eyelashes and quite small eyes so mascara helps to make me look like I’m awake and not hideously tired like I often am!
Camping? Glamping? Self catering? Hotel? What would your choice be on holiday
Definitely self catering, especially having just come back from one! I love staying in holiday homes, cottages, villas. I do like hotels but I never really feel like I’m settled. In a self catering environment you can pretend you live there for a week or two and get completely settled in your surroundings. Also hotel breakfasts, lunches, dinners and bar bills are a complete rip off! I was in one recently in Birmingham for work and they charged £10.20 for a large glass of rose wine!
What are your favourite flowers?
Tulips. They are so beautiful. Their shape, their range of colours, their smell. Everything about them just makes me smile. I was over the moon when a load appeared in our garden this spring – we had no idea what had been previously planted!
If you won a lotto of €1 million what would be the first thing you would do?
Pay off the mortgage so that I could quit my job and go part time. I know that a million doesn’t go very far these days but surely it would be enough to ensure that I could see more of Zach than I do now!
What’s your favourite thing to do in summer?
Get out in the countryside. We are extremely lucky to live right near a huge country park which is just delicious all year round but particularly in the summer. There’s a canal, gorgeous lakes, duck feeding areas. It’s just lovely and costs us no money at all! Unless we stop for an ice cream!
What’s your favourite thing to do to relax?
Have a bath, surrounded by lit candles and read a magazine – maybe with a glass of wine in hand! I definitely don’t do it enough!
What’s your perfect breakfast?
Perfectly cooked poached eggs on toast. They have to have a runny yolk and it has to be on white bread. It’s making my mouth water just thinking about it!
Questions from Diary of an Imperfect Mum
Who do you admire the most and why?
I admire Jennie from Edspire. My complete admiration goes to any parent who has lost a child and somehow managed to stay afloat but with Jennie, her story hit me really hard. I think it was because we both had our babies at a similar time and so when I read her tragic news, it had such an impact on me. The way she has dealt with her loss, grief and anger. The way she has dealt with having her rainbow baby Bea and still managed to parent her twins. I just think she is incredible.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Nope! I am completely untalented!
What is your most treasured possession?
It seems like a really obvious answer but I would have to say Zach. He is the sole purpose of my being now. That may sound a bit dramatic but it’s true. Everything I do, I do for him. Nothing could be as important as keeping him safe and happy.
What are you scared of?
Other than something dreadful happening to my boy (which is every parents answer), I have a brand new fear of getting stuck on the underground! I have been commuting for the past ten years and suddenly, when my train stops in the middle of a tunnel, I start panicking! I don’t know why it has suddenly become a fear but it is. I really need to get over it though because I can’t see me not commuting any time soon!
If you could learn a new skill, what would it be and why?
It would have to be something crafty. I’d say it would be to learn to sew properly so that I can sit at home on my machine and make pretty things. I did a one day course in December and loved it so I really need to get the machine out – it’s just finding the time amongst everything else!
Do you play any musical instruments?
No. I have a serious lack of talent when it comes to playing music. I always wanted to learn the piano but as we didn’t have one at home, it wasn’t really feasible. I tried the viola and saxophone when I was at school but I was rubbish!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Do you know, I think it would be here. Not right here where I am, but here in the UK. I would live in the countryside somewhere, in a beautiful (and large) country cottage. Yes the weather can be a bit blah but there are parts of this country that are absolutely beautiful and I would love to be able to explore them more.
What is your biggest regret?
It’s so difficult when thinking about regrets because all of the decisions I have made, have led me to where I am now. Ultimately my biggest regret is not realising what career I wanted. I discovered too late that I really should have gone into something like teaching or midwifery. Instead I am in events and whilst I do enjoy it, I will always have that nagging feeling. Equally though, had I have done that, I’m not sure that I would have met the same group of friends that I did in college. We all studied similar topics and were in each others classes. If I hadn’t become friends with them, then I wouldn’t have met the other half. It may have taken us twelve years to get together but it all stems back to us meeting in college. And if we hadn’t done that then we wouldn’t be together and Zach wouldn’t be here. And since he is just simply amazeballs, that’s why I question whether it is possible to have regrets that would have led to a different path in life.
Did you always want children?
Yes, yes and more yesses! I have been broody since the day I was born. Ok that might be a bit extreme but seriously, I have wanted to be a mum for as long as I can remember. I am forever broody. I didn’t have Zach until I was 29, by which point he was so unbelievable wanted. And I have now been broody since the day I gave birth. Being a mum is the best. It is hard, it is challenging but my goodness it is simply wonderful. I would do it over and over again if I could!
Why did you become a blogger?
I have always felt the need to write. I’ve never really known what to write about though and then suddenly I became a mum and had all this stuff I was learning that I felt I could pass onto others. I’d been reading lots of blogs myself and thought what a great thing to do. Little did I know that it would become more than a hobby. I mean ultimately it is still a hobby but I adore it far more than to just call it that. It is my second job! It might not earn me much money (barely anything) yet but I consider it as more than a hobby.
Thanks for setting me such fab questions ladies!
