10 Ways to Get Your Kids to Drink More Water – Mummascribbles

AD – This is a collaborative post

Getting kids to drink water can be tricky. I have been quite lucky that I have two children that actually don’t complain about drinking water and it’s often their drink of choice, but I know there are many out there who absolutely hate the stuff. We all know that drinking water is pretty important (even though many of us adults don’t drink enough either) and so below you will find some brilliant and cheeky ways to keep your little ones happily hydrated!

Jazz It Up with Some Flavour

Who said water has to be plain? Squeeze a bit of lemon, throw in some cucumber slices, or how about a sprig of mint? Just a little something to make that H2O look fancier and taste fab. My eldest loves a bit of lime in his water!

Fancy Water Bottles or Cups

We seem to go through bottles like there’s no tomorrow but it does make drinking water extra fun when it’s in a bottle that screams fun! Let them choose it if you can; they’re more likely to drink from something they’ve picked out themselves.

Water Drinking Challenges

Make a game of it! Challenge them to gulp down a glass of water at different times of the day. Turn it into a friendly competition with stickers, stars, or whatever rewards system you fancy. Kids love a good challenge, don’t they?

Filtered Water – It’s a Game Changer!

Now, this might sound a tad posh, but hear me out. Using a water filter can make it taste smoother and, dare I say, fresher. Some kids might turn up their noses at tap water’s taste, but filtering it might just do the trick. Plus, it’s a great way to keep all those pesky unwanted bits and bobs out of the water. The youngsters might not notice, but hey, every little bit helps, right?

Make It Fizzy

If your kids are craving something fizzy, why not try sparkling water with a splash of fruit juice? It’s like a party in a glass, without all the sugary madness of soda. You never know, this could be the ticket!

Frozen Treats

Ice lollies made with water and a touch of fruit juice are not just a treat; they’re a sneaky way to get that water into them. And what child says no to an ice lolly? Exactly, none.

Show ‘Em How It’s Done

Kids are like little copycats, aren’t they? So, if they see you chugging down water and enjoying it, chances are they’ll want to join in. Cheers to that!

Water The Plants Together

Teach them how essential water is for the plants, and then explain how their bodies are like little plants too! Bit of education mixed with fun, why not?

Mix It with Meals

Include water-rich foods in their diet. Think watermelon, cucumber, oranges, and all that juicy goodness. It’s hydration in disguise!

Keep It Cool

On a hot day, what’s better than a glass of super-chilled water? Keep a jug in the fridge, so it’s always ready to hit the spot.

So there you have it, a nifty little guide to get the kiddos sipping away. Try one or try them all, but most importantly, have a giggle with it. Water doesn’t have to be the dull, boring drink kids think it is! Make it fun!
