Zachary you are 5 – Mummascribbles
OK, so I know that this is a couple of days beyond when this post was supposed to be published but I got a tad behind in the blogging stakes when I had to bake yours and your brothers birthday cakes! My blog went on the back burner for a few days!
So, my darling Zachary – you are 5!
Five whole years old.
It’s a pretty epic age really – quite a big number, and you are incredibly proud that this is now your age! You are such a big boy, one of the biggest in your class at school and it is very obvious that you are one of the oldest.

You have taken to school so well. OK, so we have had a bit of a blip on some of the school runs when you haven’t wanted to go and screamed blue murder when I’ve tried to drop you off, but when you are there, not battling to get away with me, you absolutely love it. And we now seem to be through the blip (touch wood) as we haven’t had any tears for two days!
When you first started I couldn’t get any information out of you about your days but now you are more willing to talk about it, letting slip bits of your day so I can try to picture it all together. You love bringing home your new reading book and you even quite enjoyed your first set of homework!
I have been amazed at what you have learnt so far. I mean, I know they say young minds are like little sponges but never has that been more obvious than now, when stuff is getting fed into you on a daily basis. You come out of school telling me about what phonics sound you have learnt that morning and the little saying that you remember to help you write the letter. You tell me how you managed to get yourself undressed and redressed for PE on Mondays with no help. And you have mentioned learning about a platypus! It didn’t come from us so it must have come from school! I am so proud of you for the journey you have just begun – I just know that inquisitive brain of yours is going to love learning more and more!
Gosh, you are such a big boy now. Sometimes I look at you and I just can’t believe how big you are. You are all limbs. Long legs, long arms! And by god you have the boniest bum ever! You totally get that from me. I remember sitting on nannie’s lap when I was younger and her complaining about my bony bum. Now when you sit on my lap, I complain about yours!

You are just the sweetest boy. So caring and considerate. So polite. I am so proud when people recognise these traits in you and at your birthday party, one of the mum’s told me what a good job I have done with you and what a lovely little boy you are. My heart was bursting with pride!

Of course, you have your moments and it wouldn’t be right not recognise those as well – they are all a part of your character after all!
You know your own mind and if something doesn’t go your way, we know about it. You have a huffy temper on you – one that when you huff off somewhere, you are so much like a teenager in a small person’s body!
And still, you have trouble listening! That’s probably the most infuriating – when we ask you something or tell you to stop doing something a million times and then have to shout to make you stop. That’s definitely the most frustrating. So if you could just stop that and listen from now on, that would be really great!
You are such a sensitive soul and I just love that about you. There are some people that would use that horrible phrase ‘man up’, but since you are not a man, just a five year old who doesn’t know how to compress those emotions when they come bubbling to the surface, I simply look at you and try and make you feel better about whatever it is that has upset you. I will never berate you for crying. We all need a good cry sometimes!
So, what are you into right now?
Well, you are a massive PJ Masks fan! Your favourite is Catboy and nannie bought you the costume for your birthday which you just love (although you got pickle on it and I am currently needing to handwash it!).

You also love Spiderman although you haven’t actually seen much of it at all. You just discovered that he can do ‘webbing’ and he became a firm favourite! We bought you a Spiderman bike for your birthday and you just look fab on it!

Your favourite movie right now is Trolls, you watch it all the time. You have also recently been a big fan of Moana which was watched a hundred times before Trolls came on tv! You have also reverted back to Cbeebies a bit – probably because of Oscar – but you like to watch Justin’s House and In The Night Garden. With the latter though, you get really annoyed if it’s a ninky nonk episode rather than a pinky ponk!
Food wise? Well, you change your mind about stuff all the time, but a firm favourite is mummy’s homemade lasagne and you also love the BBQ chicken fajitas that we make! You do love a good Sunday Roast and you are well into your sweetcorn right now. You recently went off peas but seem to be back on them again and you have decided that you really dislike shepherds pie! Oh and you really love hotdogs too! As for desserts, it is chocolate custard all the way!

And what do you like doing?
Well, up until recently, you really loved going to gymnastics. However, since you changed into the next class up, which is on a different day, with different children and different teachers, you have gone off it a bit. You are never good with change and it takes you a while to get into the groove again so I am hoping it is just a blip and that you fall in love with it again because you are so good at it.
You are a big fan of Playmobil and in particular, the castle that you have and the pirate ship that you just got for your birthday from Aunt Coo and Co. You still love your train set, although you do get annoyed when Oscar likes to break it up or when he steals a train from your connected carriages! And you love to play with all of Oscar’s baby toys too…just because!

Speaking of Oscar, you are quite possibly the best big brother ever! OK, sometimes you argue over a toy and sometimes you can be a bit too bashful with him but overall, you have taken the role of big bro on so well. Oscar absolutely adores you and you him. The way you laugh together is gorgeous and when you are sitting down and playing together, it makes me so happy to watch. I know, I absolutely know that you would do anything for him. He is so very lucky to have an older brother like you – I know that you will always have his back and that makes me a super proud mum. I can’t wait to watch how your relationship develops over the next year as he becomes more and more of the little person that he is growing into.

Overall Zachary, I am just so proud of you. Of the wonderful little person you have become. My big five year old. My school boy. But still forever my baby.
Happy birthday gorgeous boy. I love you so very, very much.
