5 months to the wedding and the panic is kicking in! {AD} – Mummascribbles

AD – This is a collaborative post

Well, less that five months now! 150 days in fact! I can’t believe it!

I have been pretty laid back to be fair. You could say I was almost horizontal about the whole thing. But that is the problem with having over two years to organise something. All the planning up until this point has come in waves. The first bookings and deposits were paid, then quiet. Then the next bookings and deposits were paid, and then quiet again. This is how it has been for ages. Even at the six month mark, I didn’t feel any bit of stress – I think because it fell over Christmas and I didn’t really have time to think about it.

But now things are hotting up big style, and I am starting to feel a little panicked. Only a little. But enough!

We went to visit our reception venue a couple of weeks ago to sit down and go through all the plans of the day. The timings, the set up, and the food options. It was good to get it all down on paper with the venue, and I felt like a bit of a weight had been lifted as we had spent so long umming and ahhing over what we were having.

The other half has finally made a booking to go and have a look at some suits. He really didn’t know where to go for them but I found a recommendation on the website of our photographer, and so he is trying there. He and I are due to go a week on Saturday to have a look and hopefully pick what he wants, and then the day after, he, the men, and the boys, are due to go for their fittings. I had been harassing him about sorting his suits for a while so I am glad he got the ball rolling with that one!

The invitations are nearly sorted. I kind of forgot to crack on with getting them designed and should have factored in Christmas and stuff. But I couldn’t find what I wanted and had been looking for ages. Finally I found someone to design them and she has been busy working on them over the last couple of weeks (and very patient with my change requests). They are almost ready – I am just waiting for the proofs to pop through the door before I sign them off and get them the hell sent out! To anyone who got a save the date through a very long time ago, your invite is coming!!

I have my first hair trial this Saturday! My awesome and very trusted hairdresser is doing all of our hair on the big day, and so I am off to hers on Saturday afternoon to see if what I think I want looks any good! I know I want a kind of messy up do as having my hair down just annoys me, and it could potentially be pretty hot on our wedding day (the past two years have been scorchers so it will probably rain), so I don’t want to have sweaty hair on my neck! I am just hoping I have enough hair to make it look nice and pretty – else I might have to find the best human hair options to add to it!

My first dress fitting (for alterations – I bought my dress in December 2018) is on May 2nd which is really exciting. I got my sparkly shoes over the Black Friday sales which was awesome. They are more like trainers than shoes – I don’t do heels as they absolutely kill my feet. And I am pretty rubbish with things like sandals too. So sparkly trainers it was to be. It’s not like you can see them under the dress anyway!

My hen do is in the planning process. I had a discussion with my Sister about what sort of things I would like to do, set up a WhatsApp group with all the invitees (except the almost mother in law who isn’t on Whatsapp so will be communicated with separately), and deleted myself off of it before any messages were sent! It is happening on the last May bank holiday weekend.

We booked our mini-moon a few weeks ago. We are spending a long weekend at a spa in Essex. Just us and a lot of relaxation the weekend after our wedding! I won’t lie, I am still a little worried about how Oscar is going to cope for a whole weekend without us here, but there is no doubt that we both need that weekend to process our wedding and enjoy some us time!

And there are lots of other things that I need to plan. We need to meet with our photographer, our DJ, our cake maker, and our photobooth company. The reception venue have a wedding fayre in March so we are hoping to go along to that as it will be all set out as if it’s a real wedding. Then I know nearer the big day, along with making all the final numbers and payments, I am going to be here, there and everywhere collecting things! My engagement ring can be re-dipped by our jeweller so I need to drop that off a couple of weeks before the wedding, and then go and get it along with our wedding rings, a week later. And I’ll no doubt have to pick up the suits when they are ready.

We also have our planning meeting booked with the registry office at the end of April so at some point, we need to sit down and sort out all of the words we want in the service, along with the music!

There are still lots of things I need to sort as well. We are DIY’ing our centrepieces, there are a couple of other DIY jobs I need to do, I still need to sort bridesmaid dresses, the best gal dresses (he isn’t having a best man but two best gals), and probably other things I can’t think of off the top of my head. I need to sit and write some lists out and see what I still need to do, because I am bound to forget something with this crazy life.

I am getting so excited now. I can’t believe that it is under five months – it seems crazy but everyone said it would fly round and it really is!
