5 ways to help me be more blog organised in the school holidays (free blogging prompts included!) – Mummascribbles
We recently had half term and do you know how much work I got done? Sweet FA! Well…almost sweet FA.
Blog posts went out on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – but they were written and scheduled the weekend before! The next post that I got written went out on the Sunday. Slacking to say the least!
OK, so it didn’t help that there was a TV programme on that we were watching that week too – Trauma on BBC One, which was on for three consecutive nights. But to be honest, I was so tired from parenting two children all day long that I didn’t have the motivation to sit and do work anyway.
Now that Zach is back at school, I have been a bit more back on it again (well I was until Oscar got sick and then started napping completely irregularly!), but it’s made me realise that I need to be far more organised in the lead up to any school holidays. Especially the Summer ones, because by god, six weeks is a long time to be slacking on the work front!
I have been thinking about what I can do to make myself more organised – to be better prepared for those holidays when my usual work time (Oscar’s nap time), is completely redundant as I have a 5 year old at home too. When I need to have content ready to go, scheduled in advance – my editorial calendar full of post titles so that I don’t have to think day by day and then get behind and have no content going out for days on end. So here are my plans to help me along the way (and if you are a blogger, there might be some free prompt templates to help you too!).

School holiday blog prompts
Having a useful batch of blog prompts to use means that I can quickly turn a blog post around, or even better – write and schedule way ahead of time. I have put together a list of 25 blog prompts that are all school holiday related. And if you want them too, just click here.
Awareness day prompts
There are so many awareness days that come and go throughout the year that ironically, I am not even aware of. Some of these are bound to fall in the school holidays and others may come at a time when I am lacking in content! I have put together a bunch of the best, which again, you are more than welcome to use just by clicking here.
Make use of childcare
Something I am really going to have to do in the Summer holidays is send the boys off to family members every now and then. My Sister is a teacher so she is off over the Summer, and I know they would love to spend some more time with my Mum as well. It’s going to be hard to fit in all what I have to do into evenings for the whole six weeks, so even if Mum comes to me and takes them to the park for a couple of hours, that will at least give me some time to get stuff done. I simply need to make use of any time I can get.
Be productive
When it comes to working, I need to crack on with getting on with what needs to be done. I need to not faff around on social media if I have a blog post to write. I need to not have a gazillion browsers open on the laptop (especially those that have little notifications at the top telling me I have new Facebook happenings or new emails pinging through!). The procrastination is real people, and sometimes I really struggle to overcome it. If I know exactly when I am going to be sitting down to do some work, I need to know exactly what I need to be working on and not switch my focus onto anything else.
Use my planner
This is key. I have a planner and yet I haven’t used it much this year so far. Last year I was great at writing down everything I need to do, so I need to make sure that I get back into the habit of noting everything down. I am someone that works better if I have stuff written down!
Have I missed anything? Is there a key tip that you have to make working from home easier in the school holidays? I would love you to share any with me 🙂
