A wonderful Christmassy weekend – Mummascribbles

This weekend was pretty epic – I was supposed to blog about it last night but I was way too tired!

It all started on Saturday morning when we drove to our friends’ house for our yearly Christmas get together. Six couples and now a toddler and baby in attendance for a catch up, a Christmassy dinner, presents, an evening of fizzy wine and a game. For the first time, we stayed over so I could enjoy the evening rather than have to drive us home. We planned on arriving early in the hope that Zach wouldn’t go to sleep in the car and would have his proper after lunch nap and be a happy bouncing boy. It didn’t go to plan! We left later than planned, he did fall asleep for about 15 minutes in the car, he didn’t have another nap, however this didn’t stop him being a happy bouncing boy until bedtime! The day was fantastic and only ended because Zach woke up and wouldn’t go back down in his travel cot. Of course, this left for an uncomfortable, sleep deprived night which sucked a little!

My favourite part of the day was discovering I was a legend at the ‘Best of TV and Movies Board Game’. My years of being a television fan really came into play and we won…twice! I say we, the other half had decided that since I was usually a bit rubbish at games, we’d do a partner swap and play with other people. Pah…serves him right. He was soon regretting his decision to palm me off when our little piece was whizzing round the board at speed! Along with the game, highlights included, Zach pulling his first Christmas cracker (with a little parental assistance!), some fab presents (especially for Zach – he was a very lucky boy), a very delicious dinner and baby cuddles! It was a fantastic day and thank you to our wonderful hosts Liz and Imran

Going in for a kiss!

Sunday morning I woke up extremely tired. We had another exciting day ahead and so I had to snap out of it pretty quickly – it’s amazing what a shower can do! Sunday was the day of the other half’s work children’s Christmas party. We missed it last year as it clashed with my brother in law’s surprise 50th birthday party and so I was keen to get there this year so Zach could have some more fun! The other half works in Richmond and so it was about an hours drive from where we were. We gave ourselves plenty of time to get there because we had absolutely no idea about traffic and parking but it was easy enough. I’m not keen on driving round parts of London I don’t know, the roads are always confusing at certain points but it wasn’t too bad!

The party started at 11 and was on the theme of Frozen (of course!). When we walked in, Elsa was there and there were lots of frozen pictures dotted around. There was an area for eating and crafting and an area for Elsa inspired activities and dancing. Zach had a ball. He was a bit unsure at first, as he usually is with new and strange places but he soon came out of his shell and joined in with the games, made a crown (with the help of mummy!) and had a boogie! Then it was time for Santa! Zach has already met Santa once (here) and so he was well aware of who he was. When we told him who was coming into the room, he was so excited, sitting concentrating on the floor with Daddy. His face was a picture and it made me realise that this really is the year he has started believing which makes Christmas so much more exciting. Each child in attendance had a present from Santa relevant to their age and when Zach’s name got called, he made his way up to Santa with a look of awe in his face! It was quite simply the most wonderful moment. Once all the presents had been distributed, it was time for Santa to go and Zach rushed up to him to say and wave bye bye. Afterwards, he kept looking out of the door saying ‘Santa gone’ – bless him.

As the other half was on the committee for the party, he got a lovely bottle of Prosecco but did have to help clear up a bit afterwards, so Zach and I took a little stroll down to the river (it’s actually only about ten adult steps away but felt like a stroll with a toddler!). There’s a little section where you can get down to the water with lots of stones and so he had a go at throwing the stones into the water. It was pretty fresh down there so I was thankful when we suddenly saw the OH heading our way so we could get back to the car and get home to the warm! Zach had his afternoon nap on the way home and then we had a nice chilled afternoon, gave Zach his dinner, got him bathed and in bed and then ordered a Chinese!
