An A-Z of what parenting means to me – Mummascribbles

I was tagged in the #parentingalphabetchallenge by Me, Them and the Others. The idea is to write an A-Z of your life as a parent and then tag some other bloggers to do the same. So here are my thoughts on life as a parent, in alphabetical order.

A is for Adventure

With two little men in my life, there is always a lot of adventuring going on. Whether it’s digging the garden, going out for walks, or seeing if stones create a splash when you throw them down drains in the street – they are always up for an adventure!

B is for Breakfast

Or three as the case may be. I spend most of my morning making various breakfasts for my hungry duo. Toast, Weetabix, and fruit is usually all eaten before we leave for the school run!

C is for Cake and (hot) Chocolate

I eat and drink a lot of it to see me through the parenting troubles!

D is for Dens

They love making dens. It usually means that they drag all of the dining chairs out and cover them with blankets to make their little territory. And then Zach moans a lot when Oscar makes them fall off! And I moan a lot when they don’t clear them away!

E is for Elephants

Which is what they sound like then they are running through the house!

F is for Fighting

Something that they seem to do a lot of nowadays. I won’t lie, I didn’t quite expect it from them so young, but boy can they wind each other up!

G is for Grapes

I feel like I spend my life cutting those damn things up!

H is for Hair

They both have totally different hair but both grow at pretty alarming rates. Zach’s is pretty wavy and grows upwards and Oscar’s is dead straight but soon reaches his eyes. I feel like I am forever needing to take one or both of them to the barbers!

I is for Ice Cream

They are both big fans and always ask for one if we are over the park or out to dinner!

J is for Jumping

For the most part, off of things. I am forever telling them to stop jumping on the sofas and the beds, and they would spend their lives on the trampoline if I let them!

K is for Kicking

From Oscar anyway. Along with the trampoline, he would spend his life playing football if he could (maybe he will!), and has such an accurate kick on him, it’s amazing! I am forever playing footie with that one.

L is for Love

It’s overwhelming sometimes – even though they do drive me nuts on a daily basis.

M is for Mum

Mine. She has helped me parent every Friday since I gave birth to Oscar! It’s our day – the one day I know I have lots of help, and probably the day I need the most help because Zach is always exhausted by Friday!

N is for Naps

I have always been a believer that naps for my children are the key to surviving this journey. When Zach was little, I adored his naps and used them for walks, followed by a quick cuppa before he woke up again. And with Oscar, I have always used nap times to work. I am not looking forward to saying goodbye to naps, although I have this feeling that we are at this point right now!

O is for Organisation

Something I have needed much more of since Zach started school. I may lack it in some regards, but when it comes to making sure any forms are completed and handed in, costumes for dress up days are sorted, or food is bought for donations to school parties, I totally rock it!

P is for Playing

Something I find really difficult to do in all honesty. Maybe because Zach always changes the rules, or Oscar isn’t quite there yet when it comes to playing properly, but it’s not easy to sit and play with them!

Q is for Queuing

Something that becomes even more painful when you are a parent. Children get so bored in queues – even if it’s just a short one!

R is for Running

Why can’t they just walk? I swear I just can’t keep up with them!

S is for Snacks

I mean I daren’t leave the house without them, let alone not have them in the cupboard. And Zach has to have one every day at school pick up. They love a good snack they do!

T is for Tantrums

From both of them. And I tell ya – nothing can prepare you for a tantrum from a six year old! The two year old ones are pretty intense too – especially when it’s over a broken cracker!

U is for Umbrellas

Or indeed, how when you become a parent, they are useless! You can’t push a buggy and hold one properly, and then you get those small ones for the kids, they pop it up and within sixty seconds of being outside in the rain, they have given up carrying it and instead just get wet!

V is for Videos

Because there is nothing better than looking back on the videos you have taken of your kids. I adore seeing Zach as a toddler and a baby because it all happened in such a flash that I forget he was ever that small!

W is for Walking

Something I do a lot of now thanks to the school run. And come September will be doing even more with the added pre-school pick up!

X is for Xmas

Because when you are a parent, this is something that seems to last all year rather than just the build up and day in December. Just last week Zach popped the Christmas CD on and was dancing around to it!

Y is for Yes

Because after the hundredth time of them badgering me for something, I always end up giving in!

Z is for Zachary

Because he is the one that made me a parent in the first place!

So there is my A-Z of parenting! I love being a Mum, I adore my boys, although there are days when it can be incredibly challenging.
