Giving a room a new look with curtains {AD} – Mummascribbles

Curtains are a bit of a sore topic in our house. You see we decorated our bedroom when I was pregnant with Oscar – painting three walls, wallpapering another, and buying new wardrobes. But we never quite got around to buying new curtains.
Oscar will be three in September so it has been more than three and a half years since we decorated it. And we still have the curtains up that I absolutely hate. Not to mention that they clash hideously with the purple walls. I’d take a photo and show you, but I dislike them that much that I don’t want you to judge me for having put up with them for so long.
I could just never decide on what to go for. We have one very patterned wall so I don’t want anything that will clash with that, and at the same time, I am not sure I am keen on just having plain ones. Plus there are so many different styles to choose from – eyelet, pencil pleat, slot tops, black outs – how does one choose?!
But of course, I can’t live with them forever. I must get around to actually finding some curtains that I like before we end up changing colour scheme in our room. Although to be fair, this is something we are not going to do. A fresh lick of the same coloured paint yes – a whole other colour scheme – absolutely not! New curtains are a good way to spruce up a room without having to spend a fortune.
I do have a couple of options when it comes to the colour of our potential curtains. I could go for a lighter heather purple to keep the room brighter. It’s quite a dark room so it would probably be good to encourage a bit more natural light in. Or I could go for an aubergine shade – to make it a bit more of a dramatic finish. It’s pretty dark anyway so why not make it a theme hey?!

And when it comes to the boys’ bedroom – well that is getting in need of an update from scratch but it’s going to be a big job so in the interim, we could start updating it with new curtains too. And the choice for children’s curtains is really fab. You see where we pretty much get to choose between plain and patterned, they get to choose from a whole array of things like camper-vans, unicorns, trains and pirates! If you are looking for cute or funky children’s curtains, you can browse Yorkshire Linen’s huge range available. I actually wonder if us adults could get away with having themed curtains. I’d blooming love camper-vans everywhere!
The tricky thing I have though, is that they both share the same bedroom and so the curtain design has to be appropriate for both of them. You see if Oscar had his way, he would probably have a whole dinosaur themed room.

Whereas Zach being that bit older now and being into scooting and thoughts of skateboards and tricks and stuff. Well he would probably opt for this.

It is certainly going to be tricky when the time does come to update their room because they are such different ages, I know that one won’t want what the other wants! Of course I could just not involve them in curtain choice and keep it fairly simple. I am personally quite a fan of this cacti one!
