Hello…Hi…Howdy! – Mummascribbles
Hello! I’m not even sure to say hello properly when I’ve been absent for so long. I last posted back in February when it was the anniversary of our house move and before that, I’d hardly posted at all. It’s always on my mind, writing a post, but when you’ve been away for so long, it’s not as easy as just jumping back into it. Saying that though, it’s exactly what I’m doing now. I decided I wanted to write and so here I am!
So what have we been up to? Well, not a lot! I mean, a lot, but nothing hugely interesting. Life always feels chaotic and yet I have not a lot to show for the chaos! I guess the fact that we’re all still here, still happy, still enjoying life now we are out of all the dreadful lockdowns says a lot! God it’s good to have normal life back isn’t it?
I have been super busy work-wise. Yes, that little old VA business I started a few years ago picked up like I hoped it would and I have a few clients that I work with. I’m so happy that I persevered with it and whilst sometimes I wonder if I should go back into the real working world (i.e. not self-employment), I know that for us, this just works. I work while the kids are at school and I’m there for drop off and pick up, I’m there for all the after school clubs, and I’m there for the dog walks! Like I say, it just works and I know that if I did go and get a job, life would be even more hectic!
Dean still works from home three days a week which is working great. He’d prefer 4 days at home and we hope at some point that may happen, but three days is fine…he copes!
The boys are doing great. Really great! They both love school and they come skipping out happy every day which is wonderful. Oscar is doing amazing with his reading. He’s just moved onto level 10 phonics which means lots of 5 letter words are in the books now and I’m so impressed with how quickly he’s even doing them. He’s also very good at maths and is already getting to grips with counting in twos and doing his five times table. He’s a force to be reckoned with that one! And yes, he’s still incredibly sporty! There isn’t anything he isn’t good at…he even came out of his after school multi-sports club last week with a player of the day trophy…for dodgeball! His heart lies with football…he is incredible at it. But he can also still whack a cricket ball across a field and get a tennis shot where he wants it to go!

Zach is also doing fab at school although he doesn’t show me his knowledge as much as Oscar does! He’s 9, nearly 10, so we’re at that stage where information is lacking and all he really wants to do is go online and play Fortnite with his mates! We are also at a really tricky stage where he is wanting more independence and he’s seeing some of his friends being allowed to go to the park on their own or walk to each other’s houses alone etc. I am SO not ready for that. He’s still so young. From next year, the school allow them to walk home alone if we say they can and that is something I have in my mind, but I’m so not ready for him to be over the park without me! He’s part of the cricket team now and trains on a Friday night. He’s also still doing tennis and swimming and whilst he does find his swimming lesson exhausting, he is so strong in the water and is doing great at working on his techniques.

We are (believe it or not) finally looking like we’ll actually get married! Yes, we are just 7 weeks away from the big day and we are starting to sort all the last bits for the big day! I’ve had my hen do (Dean’s is next month), I’ve had my first dress fitting (exercising like a crazy thing to make it fit!), I’ve had another hair trial which looked amazing, we’ve spoken to our cake lady, venue, have had our planning meeting with the registry office and are starting to think about all those small bits on the day. We are so excited now and just can’t wait to finally have our big day. We’ve delayed twice, should have been married for nearly two years by now, and have been waiting for this since we got engaged in January 2018!

We are also finally going on holiday this year. We’ve opted for a UK break and are heading to Norfolk for a week in August. Really looking forward to it as it’s been so long since we’ve been away! We’ve also got Zach’s 10th birthday in September and we both have our fortieths in October! I have no idea what we are going to do – we didn’t quite intend on having our wedding the same year as our big birthdays! We missed out on properly celebrating our 30th’s though because Zach was 4 weeks old, so I feel like we are owed a big birthday celebration!
Anyway, I think I’ve rambled on enough now. It’s nice to give a little update and of course, I always appreciate having this blog here to look back on. I’ll see if I can write a bit more often…not just about what I’m doing, and how we all are. Can’t make any promises though!!
