Living Arrows 2021 – Week 3 – Mummascribbles

“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”

Well we are firmly into lockdown now aren’t we? And it already feels like it has been forever! It is most definitely harder this time – I miss not being able to just chuck them out into the garden every day and let them run around. It has either been bloody freezing or soggy wet! And we haven’t been taking them out during the week either because the whole thing is just so ruddy stressful. People just don’t seem to get the whole social distancing thing and everyone is wandering in their droves around the nearby Country Park. Like it is the biggest space but people just don’t move out the way. They stop for a chat with each other, joggers just overtake you mere inches away, and there are bikes everywhere. It just is not an easy thing and is far easier to just keep them safe at home.

That said, it gets to the weekend and it is obvious they need to get out. So on Sunday we braved it. The sun was out for the first time and so it was the perfect day for them to get a good dose of vitamin D. We were out for two hours (a bit of that was waiting for people to just move away so we could keep a distance), but they were both on their bikes and they both had a blast.

Zach specifically liked getting to the main wide pathway where he had a bit more freedom from people and there was a point where I couldn’t see him in the distance ahead as he had zoomed off. I remember the days when we were desperately trying to get him off his stabilisers, so to see him cycling with such ease and enjoyment makes me really happy.

Oscar got his new bike for Christmas and so he also loves going out on it. However, my favourite picture of him from the weekend was when he had discarded the bike in the field in preference of splashing through the rather big puddles which is one of his absolute favourite things to do!

I wish our trips out could be a little less stress free for the pair of us, but the kids are always really good at trying to keep their distance and we do know it is important for them to get out every now and then!!
