Moving into Spring with Simply Be {AD} – Mummascribbles

It’s that time of year when no-one really knows how to dress. Every day I walk outside the front door and decide at that point whether I need my Winter coat or just my hoodie. Depending on what time of day it is generally depends which option I choose. At the moment, the mornings are still pretty chilly and the afternoons are mostly hoodie only weather.

It is also confusing though, as to what I wear underneath said coat/hoodie. Will a short sleeved t-shirt suffice, or do I need full arm coverage? Trainers or Winter boots? I mean, the decisions we have to make in March are unreal!

Step in Simply Be, who so very kindly got in touch to see if I would like to add a few Spring like clothes into my very wintry wardrobe.

At first, my initial thought was, “oh I can’t do that because I am too small for their clothes”. That isn’t an, “oh aren’t I slim” – I’m not. Well I am, but I’m not. The exercise regime kinda halted and the weight has been slowly creeping back on. But I am still a size ten at the moment and the website clearly states that their clothes are from size 12 to 32. After having a scoot around their online store though, I noticed that they do indeed have some size 10 clothing for sale. Bingo! So I chose a little selection, they arrived, I liked them all, and then I had a little fashion show in the garden for the purpose of this post – it was a bit chilly and blustery and I was hoping my neighbours couldn’t see me posing! The things a blogger has to do hey?

The first item that I tried was a super cute black pinafore dress. I have been eyeing up pinafore dresses for an age now, but I have never really known how they would look on me or what I would wear with them. But I thought I’d give it a go and I’m really pleased I did.

This dress actually doesn’t come in a size 10, but I really liked the look of it so risked it. It also looked like it might be a bit clingy so I figured I’d probably be safe. Which I was. It fits absolutely fine and is a really nice length too. It’s mostly made out of polyester so it did cause some static when I took it off, but I really loved how floofy it is. I know that’s not really a word but you know what I mean right? Is flouncy better? I don’t know?!

I wore this with a top that I had also been gifted (see below), but I think it would look amazing with a white shirt, or even a white polo neck. If you have one lying around in your Winter closet, it’s a perfect transition to using it for spring wear on those slightly cooler days. And would make a fab statement outfit for any office workers 🙂

I also chose two very similar tops. Similar but different. In fact, only really similar because they are both red. I love red. It’s a colour that has always looked pretty good on me. Remember back to the days of the ever so popular Naf Naf puffer jacket? I always had the bright red one!

So when I saw these two tops, I thought it would be a good excuse to add a spot of colour to my wardrobe – something that the other half says I don’t do enough of.

I really like the casualness of these tops, but equally, they could be worn for a smarter occasion – I would have absolutely paired these with my work trousers back when I was an office worker! They would also look epic with some white jeans…if I was brave enough to wear white jeans (bit of a no-go with two very messy boys around me!). Because white jeans are amazing for any season aren’t they? Maybe not on muddy winter days, but certainly on fresh sunny ones. And they don’t feel as heavy as dark denim ones on those warmer Spring days. Perfect to transition through the seasons!

The final item of clothing I chose is probably my favourite. It was a bit of a bold move to be honest. I loved the look of it online but I really didn’t know whether it would suit me or whether I would actually like it in real life. Luckily I do and it’s my fave new addition to the wardrobe.

A dress with long sleeves is a must have for the start of Spring right? I am always someone that feels the cooler air on my arms so it’s the perfect answer for me.

There are two main things that I love about this shirt-dress. First is the material. It is so light and soft, it feels really amazing against my skin. I also know that I wouldn’t get too hot in it.

Second is the buttons. I don’t usually go for shirts or shirt dresses, because I always find that I’m left with a gaping hole where the world and their wives can see my bra. But this shirt dress, well it has buttons in between the buttons. So for every outer button that there is, there is also an inner button that no-one else can see. It means that there are no gaps between the larger button gaps and means that no-one can see my bra – whoop! All shirt based clothing should be made like this!

I also love the colour and pattern of this dress, and the fact that I could easily team it up with long boots or ankle boots depending on how the weather is.

Overall, I am really impressed with the selection of clothes that I got from Simply Be. I am impressed that even though they state they are size 12-32, they do indeed have smaller sized clothing available, their prices are really reasonable and the quality is really good. And those buttons. It’s like a revelation to me!
