Mummascribbles – A must have for baby number two – Mummascribbles

When Zach was born, we lived in a rather small rented one bedroom flat. The bedroom was a double and fitted everything we needed up until he came along. At that point (ok, maybe a bit before he was born), we had to unbuild our large 3 door wardrobe to make space for the cot and we bought a chest of drawers that lived in the front room. We also had a chest of drawers in the bedroom and 1 cupboard with shelves, but that was it. There was room for nothing more.

Zach had a moses basket that he hated and he didn’t much like his cot either – mainly because he wanted to sleep with his mummy or daddy. I have written previously about our co-sleeping experience and for us it was an absolute necessity to get any sleep at all.

We would position the moses basket in the small space next to the bed so that there was some protection for if he did decide to roll over, and he slept on me. I knew that equipment was available to help with such a thing but neither did we have the space or the money to buy it. It almost sounds as if Zach was an accident but that is very much not the case. He was 100% planned and we knew that there would be ways around the lack of space and there was.

Now though, as baby number two is on the way, things have changed.  We have our own two bedroom house, our bedroom is on the large side and we are much better off than we were back then. Not hugely well off, don’t get me wrong but over the last three years there have been a number of payrises to both of us that has equated to us being able to live a much more comfortable life over the past few months.

So, of course I have started thinking about the things that we couldn’t have for Zach that I would have very much wanted if we had the money/space. One of those things that I have found in my online research is a bed side crib. I mean really, to me, these are a genius idea. I had a baby that didn’t want to sleep anywhere but next to me (at one point he would only sleep on top of me but that soon stopped as he started getting heavier!), but I didn’t have the right equipment for dealing with this. If I’d had one of these, life would have been so much simpler.

I intend on having the new baby as close to me as I can – mainly because I intend on breastfeeding again and it is far far easier if the baby is within reaching distance. I love the look of the Chicco Next 2 Me Cot and I honestly think that our sleeping would have been so much easier and safer first time around had we have had one of these and so it is at the top of my baby wishlist!
