Mummascribbles meets…The Mummy Stylist – Mummascribbles

Today we meet the lovely Sabrina from The Mummy Stylist. Thanks so much for taking part Sabrina!

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family.
I’m Sabrina, 36, and I live in Berkshire with my husband Ganesh, 37, and our 3-year-old boy Tyler. Ganesh and I met 12 years ago when we worked together at Woolworths Head Office. We got married 6 years later. We live close to my parents, my brother (who is 4 years younger than me), and my sister (who is 13 years younger than me -the baby of the family). My mother-in-law and granddad-in-law also live close by, and they all play a big part in my son’s life.

What do you like doing to be you, when you are not parenting, working (if you do), or blogging?
My job is in Graphic Design, so even when I’m not at work, I still like doing creative things when I get a chance like painting bits and bobs, upcycling old furniture, and a bit of knitting. I love reading chick lit and I’m never without a book. I’ve always loved going on daytrips, looking at local history (and a bit of shopping), and now I take Tyler with me.

What is your biggest achievement to date?
Other than having my boy, marrying my husband was my biggest achievement – it was a long road to get there, and in the end we planned the most amazing wedding in 1 month. I am so proud that we managed to do that. The same year, I changed career from Marketing and retrained to be a Graphic Designer, which is my other biggest achievement.

From your own experiences, what do you find the hardest part of parenting and what is the easiest/most rewarding part?
The hardest part of parenting is how tiring it is, sometimes I am exhausted at the end of the day and could sleep for hours. Luckily I have the help of my lovely husband and our families.

The easiest and most rewarding part is when I look at my beautiful boy, when he’s sleeping or when he’s talking to me, and I just think, wow I can’t believe we made that!

Parenting in itself is no mean feat; how do you juggle everything you need to in order to get everything done on a daily basis?
I work 3 days a week in London – I drop my son off to my mum’s in the morning, which is a 20 minute drive away, and she takes him to pre-school 2 days a week. I have to be flexible about his bedtime as it can get quite late before we are back home. It makes life a bit easier being relaxed about his routine. My mum is always cooking so I often bring her food back in a takeaway container for my husband and me! Housework we do as we go along, baby wipes are a lifesaver haha. We do laundry at the weekend, and I tend to have clothes that don’t need ironing. Anything for an easy life!

Why did you decide to start blogging?
I actually started blogging about Woolworths last year. I am fascinated that there is a history of a Woolworths store in practically every UK town, so I started to write about it at http://wooliesbuildings.wordpress.com. I love writing it, but it’s not really about me. Then my husband’s cousin, Melinda Shankar, who’s a bit of a celebrity in Canada, told me I should start blogging about style and share my creative ideas with the world. I was like, yeah, when have I got the time?! But as a new year’s resolution, I thought I would give it a go from January this year, sharing my upcycling projects and my son’s outfits. I then discovered this mum blogging world that I wish I knew about before! I love the social interaction with other mums, it’s amazing, like a whole new world of friends!

Tell me a bit about your blog?
I started off writing about my upcycling projects and my boy’s outfits, but now it’s evolved and now it also includes a weekly Top 8 Toddler Clothes at a different retailer each week, days out with my toddler, crafts, mummy tips and a monthly giveaway. I would like to start running a linky later this year.

I am going to start a weekly feature called ‘Share your wardrobe’ – where each week a different mum blogger shares their favourite outfit and their child’s favourite outfit. If anyone would like to feature, do get in touch!

What do you want your blog to achieve and where do you hope to see it go as it grows?
Just to be a popular blog would be nice – I would love readers to visit it just because they want to see what’s new on the blog, and to have a network of mum blogger friends. It would be amazing if I could work with some brands in the future. Each day I am learning and improving on writing, so we’ll see how it goes!

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
Just do it! I waited until someone told me to do it, but I wish I had started earlier – I love it! It’s a great way to keep your mind active after dealing with toddler stuff all day! And be aware that it’s not just about writing a blog, it’s about interacting with other bloggers on twitter and on your facebook page, Instagram and pinterest. It is a lot, and does take a lot of time, but it’s really enjoyable other bloggers are always wiling to help. It’s a really friendly online world.

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

1. Mary J Blige – she’s been my idol since forever, it would be a dream to meet her

2. Mr. Selfridge – well he seems like he’d be an entertaining companion if the TV series is anything to go by!

3. David Duchovny – dinner with Mulder – YES!

Tell me three random facts about you

1. I’m scared of bees and wasps. They terrify me.

2. I like to eat Ovaltine powder straight out of the jar.

3. I’ve got double-jointed elbows. It always freaks people out when I stretch!
