Mummascribbles – Oscar you are 9 months old – Mummascribbles
Three quarters of a year!
Nine months feels like such a biggy. You have been in this world for the exact length of time that you were in my tummy (you were a due date baby!). Why did nine months of pregnancy go so slow when nine months of having you here has flown by? You really are something else my little pickle!
So what have you been up to this last month?
The last time I wrote, you were so desperately trying to crawl. You haven’t quite mastered the full on hands and knees crawling but boy can you move. You shuffle yourself along at such speed it’s like a flash of lightening. Gawd help me when you are moving on all fours. You keep trying of course. You have mastered the position that you need to be in and move your hands forward, but when you move your knees, they slip underneath you. I reckon that if we didn’t have wooden floor and you were continuously practising on carpet, you’d have it all figured out by now! You can also now go from sitting position to all fours/on your tummy. It’s always a big moment because you stop faceplanting the floor through trying! Well done!

You can now pull yourself up in your cot and boy are you proud of yourself when you do. First of all you pulled yourself up to kneeling and then suddenly you were standing! What a big clever boy you are! You have managed to cruise a little bit around the edge of your cot but you are very wobbly and it usually ends with you donking your head on the side which isn’t ideal. Your legs are getting so strong though so I know it won’t be long before you are feeling super confident on your feet.

You are still making all the noise! Your gah gah gah sounding like quack quack quack is still utterly adorable and when you get excited you love a good scream. Your favourite thing is raising your fist in the air and shouting ‘yah’. You do it when you get something that has taken a lot of effort to get hold of and just the other day, you did it at the dinner table in your highchair and we all copied you which you thought was utterly brilliant. We then proceeded to do it first and you kept copying us – all four of us sitting there mid-dinner with our arms in the air. You were so chuffed to be doing something that we were all doing too, it was a really gorgeous moment.
Bath-time is still your most favourite thing. You could be seriously cranky, over-tired, on the brink of sleep and then the minute you see the bath running, pure excitement takes over. And once you are in there you splash the whole time. You just love splashing, love water – you are a real water baby, especially in the swimming pool. You have been a couple of times now and it’s like you were born to be in the water!
Now I can talk about it because so many people spotted us, this month you appeared on tv! Yep, a couple of months ago you and I went on a trip to London and shot an ad for Lidl. This month we appeared on tv and it’s just super awesome! You were a little star and feature quite heavily within the ad. It’s been weird to see us on tv but you look just as gorgeous on there as you do in real life!

We are still breastfeeding. Yep, despite the pain, despite the odd bottle here and there, we are still going strong. You really make me laugh now because you recognise the sound of me unhooking my straps and you get excited and start divebombing for the boob! Weaning is going way better now and you seem to really be enjoying your food. You are still on purees and have been enjoying a mixture of pouches or mummy’s home cooked treats. You are eating more and more so I am much happier now that you are showing an appetite for real food. I have noticed that the breastfeeds are slowing down a bit during the day although you still wake regularly in the evenings and as you will only take boob for comfort, you have a right good guzzle!

Speaking of sleep – you still sleep way better when you are snuggled next to me in bed. Quite often, if you end up in our bed as soon as we come up, you’ll sleep until about 4 or 5am. If you are in your cot, you’ll wake up at about 1.30 or 2am. The other night I was up with you at 1am and then up with Zach at 2am. That totally sucked!
You have decided that your car seat is the best place to nap. It was previously the place you were most unhappy and now suddenly you love it! You have improved so much in the car that I am far less panicky when we are out and about. Ok, so I still have a freak out if we have to go on a motorway but it’s getting easier! Our holiday in July will be the biggest tester of course. Will we manage a two hour car journey without you having a massive breakdown? I sure hope so!
You love playing with cars, trucks and wooden blocks right now. You’ll sit there for ages just messing about with them. You also love Zach’s train set and get so excited when you are placed down in front of it. You are still loving baby sensory and are mesmorised from the minute the say hello song starts playing. I love that you adore it just as much as Zach did when he was a baby.

This month I handed my notice in at work so that I can be home with you boys and work from home. I have my fingers crossed that the whole thing is a success but I’ll do my absolute best to bring the money in that we need for me to stay home. You boys are totally worth it and I love that you and I will be doing the school run with Zach together.
Well I think that is it for this update. Gawd knows what you’ll be doing by the next one!
***Edit*** On the day you turned 9 months, you started crawling properly! We have a crawler!!
