Mummascribbles – Pregnancy diary – 06/06/2012 – Mummascribbles

Quite a way into my pregnancy with Zach, I started a little blog that only had a few posts about my pregnancy. The posts were to the little bean growing in my tummy and I thought that it would be nice to move them over here. This is entry number one on 6th June 2012.

I’m a bit slow on the uptake of starting this blog as you have been busily growing in my belly for 23 weeks now. I have been documenting your process though and it is all stored in my head (despite the baby brain). Your Mummy and Daddy fall more and more in love with you everyday and we just cannot wait to meet you. So here’s a little breakdown of your progress so far.

We found out about you on 28th January 2012. I was convinced that I was just late but low and behold I did the test and that big strong pink line came up. I cried a little bit while I was sat on the loo and then I went and told Daddy the news. He was a bit shocked at first even though we had planned for you, so we went for a walk to take in the big news before we told your immediate family the big news. Everyone was so excited but I will never forget your nannie getting all emotional and the smile that spread across your grandad’s face!

The weeks leading up to the first milestone were the longest and hardest. I prayed all the time that you were a sticky strong one and when we saw you at the first scan you were simply perfect. So so small and fragile but utterly perfect. My dates were wrong so you turned out to be 11 weeks and 3 days at that first scan and this is what you looked like…

You didn’t really give Mummy too many problems in those early weeks; I felt nauseous a lot but spearmint Polo’s and Softmints saved the day! For some reason, at week 10 you decided that I’d had it far to easy and made me wretch lots. It was so hard keeping you a secret but we did and when we told everyone it was a complete surprise

On April 17th, I had my 16 week check up and I got to hear your little heartbeat thumping away! I cried a little bit when I left the midwife because it was so emotional. Daddy didn’t come with me that day because it was such a short appointment but I felt terrible that he hadn’t got to hear it.

I started feeling you really early on. My first flutters were received at 15+3 and then I got my first boof from you at about 17 weeks. You stayed very quiet but every now and then I’d just get a little feeling that you were wriggling around in that big space. Then towards the end of week 19 I really felt you. I got my first proper kicks and I was so happy. I was sad that at that point I couldn’t share it with Daddy as they were only small kicks that I could feel from the inside, but I knew it wouldn’t be long until he could share the experience. Then at 20+6 I was sitting on the sofa with my hand on my belly and I felt you from the outside. I didn’t say anything at first as I didn’t want to get Daddy’s hopes up but then you were there again so I quickly grabbed Daddy’s hand and put it where you were kicking me. After about 20 seconds you booted really hard and Daddy felt you. It was beautiful. He got two kicks that night and we were so happy I’ve been feeling you ever since and whilst you have your quiet days when you are obviously resting lots to save your energy for all the growing that you are doing, you do have some action packed days! At 23 weeks we were sitting on the sofa (all day as it was the long bank holiday) watching my belly jolt out when you did your massive kicks and right now (23+1) you are kicking away as I type.

You’ve also made Mummy quite large quite quickly. Here’s a document of my growing bump so far…

10 weeks
16 weeks
22 weeks

Finally, we had our 20 week scan on 15 May. We went along and Mummy was absolutely terrified as usual but she had nothing to worry about. You were still just as perfect as before, but this time way bigger! You were being very stubborn and you were so comfy you didn’t want to move for the sonographer!! She had to wriggle Mummy’s belly around to try and get you to move but you wouldn’t shift! She managed in the end to see the majority of your important parts which all looked fine and healthy. Daddy even got to finally hear your heartbeat! The only thing she couldn’t see was your heart valves so we had to go back the following week and see you again where you were far more co-operative wriggling around like a good’un (it must have been the orange juice!!).
We wanted to find out what you are and the sonographer told us you are a little boy. We hadn’t seen anything though so I was worried in case she’d got it wrong! So when we went back for the follow up scan we asked again if it could be confirmed. This time there was no hiding it! You were so proud to be a boy that you flashed all of your bits at us. Daddy wanted to have the photo of that but I told him he wasn’t allowed! We stuck with the photo we got at the first 20 weeker – look how much you’d changed and grown…

So from that moment on, we absolutely knew that you were our precious little boy. You have a name but I’m not saying what it is on here! We have started buying things. Your pram is ordered as is your cot that has been bought by your Auntie Kate and Uncle Owen (they are Mummy’s friends). You even have a couple of beautiful outfits waiting for you to wear! We have just 17(ish) weeks to go now until we get to meet you and we are so so so excited. We love you so much already and feel free to keep on kicking away in there, it’s lovely to feel you swimming around

Lots of love,

Mummy xxxx
