Mummascribbles – Review: Dry Like Me potty training pads and book – Mummascribbles

We are in the initial stages of toilet training. I say initial stages, we have been at this stage since Christmas. It is a slow process and one I am not keen to rush because I haven’t been certain that Zach is completely ready to come out of the pull ups. It was at Christmas that we thought it might be a good idea to try as we were both at home for a long period of time. Unfortunately, it was on the last Friday of the holidays that he decided to do his first wee! Typical. Because I didn’t want to go backwards, we just kept on offering and it was all very hit and miss but after a while, there were definitely more wee’s on the potty happening at home. No-where else (not at nursery or my mum’s), just at home! This went on for a while and I wasn’t sure how exactly to progress. How could I move him into big boy pants if he was still relying on his pull ups when he forgot that he needed a wee. Thus, I still wasn’t sure he was ready for this. It was then that I discovered Dry Like Me, and they just so happened to be looking for bloggers to review their products.

About Dry Like Me
Dry Like Me potty training pads were developed by two Mums, Jude and Di, who know that the key to successful potty training is in helping your child to learn their bodily cues to go to the toilet. They have a range of training pads available for the various stages of training, along with a ‘How to Potty Train’ book. Their website is also full of advice for parents thinking of starting out on the potty training adventure.

The pads can be used to soak up wee accidents, to catch poo and for both at the same time!

What we thought of the product
We were sent both the ‘How to Potty Train’ book and a set of ‘Early Days’ pads.

The book is fabulous. It has everything you need to know as the adult and is split into five sections which are:

  • Preparing
  • Signs of readiness
  • Going for it
  • Keeping going
  • Night Time

It is also written in a way that you can sit down with your child and read it with them, including them in all of the information to get them on their way to being dry. The pictures are bright and eye catching and it’s full of really useful information.

The thing I got out of it the most was quite simply…it is ok to have accidents! In fact, it is good to have accidents because then they feel what shouldn’t happen.

The book includes an assessment page, a certificate of achievement inside to be rewarded once trained and it’s also full of reward stickers that you can use on your training journey.

Also included is a map of the country which has rain clouds across them. Sunshine stickers can be used to brighten it up when successful wee’s and poo’s have happened!

The pads are also great. We have yet to use them all, we still have trouble with him remembering to tell us that he needs a wee so most of the time he is still in pull ups but if we are at home, we like to try and get him into a pair of pants with the pad in. He’s done really well and he’s had accidents but never a bad accident because the pad catches most of the wee – the key thing is, he’s known that he’s done one. In fact, the only times we have had accidents is when mummy didn’t quite put it on right!

Is there anything we didn’t like
I don’t have a negative regarding the product. The only issue we have had is that having a boy who loves running, jumping, rolling, crawling and just generally not stopping moving, it can be hard for his willy to stay in place and that’s when we’ve had leakages. I can imagine how much easier this whole procedure would be with girls, but with boys, you do have to make sure they are on properly to avoid wee going everywhere.

Overall I am really impressed with this product. As we still have a bunch of them at home for this loooong potty training process, I will report back when we are having better luck with him telling us he needs the loo. We have had one major development though – he’s now using the big boy toilet rather than the potty!

We were sent the Dry Like Me products for the purpose of this review but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
