Mummascribbles – The Oxelo B1 Scooter – a review – Mummascribbles
When the lovely people from Decathlon got in touch recently to ask if we’d like to review a brand new style of scooter that not only was mega cool for a toddler but was also one that would help him learn how to ride properly, I jumped at the chance.

Zach has never been great with scooters and other such wheely equipment. I bought him a scooter for his second birthday and whilst he very carefully made it up and down the garden path, I was never very confident in him taking it any further so we just didn’t.
The Oxelo B1 is specifically made to help teach young children to balance. It’s got a unique and patented steering system in which the deck tilts precisely to provide the ideal balance for your child on each turn. It also prevents the child being thrown off balance when pushing forward or turning making it the perfect product to help develop their motor skills.

It’s got PU rubber wheels and ABEC 1 bearings with great glide performance for children from the age of 2, without being too fast and risking scaring the child. Pretty important as scooters can go real fast!

And for you parents, not only is it lightweight but the handlebar comes off and attaches to the underneath, perfect for carrying!

When the scooter arrived and he saw what it was, he was so excited. ‘Is that for me?’, he kept saying. ‘Can I scoot?’.
The other half very quickly put it together (because it’s waaaay easy to put together!) and he was immediately scooting around the front room and I couldn’t believe my eyes. He was so fast, he was so confident and it was clear that this was a really easy scooter for him to use.
I think one of the reasons of ease is that it’s so lightweight. When it was still in the box, my other half was convinced there was nothing in there! Obviously there was and with it being so lightweight, it means that Zach finds it really easy to scoot on and also really easy to navigate. Previously with his other scooter, he would just go in a wobbly straight line but with this, he was whizzing around corners. Having watched him so confidently, I thought it was about time to buy him a helmet and take him out on it. So after nursery on the Tuesday we nipped to grab one so that we could do exactly that at the weekend. And there, I discovered that thanks to this brilliant scooter, my boy can scoot!
He absolutely loves it and everytime he sees it he’s on it! He likes to say to me, ‘I don’t need my helmet on indoors mummy, just outside’.
And what do we love most about it? Well, other than the fact that it has been so great at teaching him to scoot where others hadn’t and it really is so light – we love the fact that that the handle comes out really easily and clips underneath making it really easy to carry. He’s only got little legs so they get tired pretty quickly. The ease of carrying this is therefore hugely necessary!
The only thing I would say that would be really helpful would be if it had just a little round handle on it making it really easy to hook onto the buggy. If it had that, it would be absolutely perfect. That said, it does balance over the handlebars so all is not lost!
We are so chuffed with this product and would highly recommend it, especially for anyone with a toddler who is just starting out on their scooting journey. 3 weeks on and we have a massive scooter fan on our hands!
The scooter is available to buy from Decathlon. The Chassis is £22.99 and the shell’s are £2.99.
We were sent this scooter for the purpose of this review but as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
