Mummascribbles – Mummascribbles meets…Mrs Mummy Harris – Mummascribbles

This week we meet the lovely Lianne from Mrs Mummy Harris. Thanks so much for taking part Lianne 🙂

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family.
My family consists of me, Hubby and Benjamin. Me and hubby met in college where he was that mysterious goth boy and I was the sad emo kid both going to our local music venue. However we didnt actually get together until seven years later. Six months after dating we moved in together and the rest is history I guess!

We live in Harlow, Essex but hope to move back to Hertford where we spent our first year living together.

What do you like doing to be you, when you are not parenting, working (if you do), or blogging?
Unfortunately, since becoming a mum I have not had much time for me. Blogging is my me time and I’m yet to go back to work due to potential redundancy issues with work (thankfully i’ve been relocated to what I think is actually a promotion of sorts.)

I love watching movies and listening to music but I don’t get much time to watch movies as by the time Ben is asleep I’m following soon after and music right now is Little Mix on loop for Ben’s amusement!

What is your biggest achievement to date?
I’d say building a career for myself. I always wanted to go to University and wanted to run my own business. I achieved Uni and although I work for an international law firm, hopefully this blog will become my own business yay!

From your own experiences, what do you find the hardest part of parenting and what is the easiest/most rewarding part?
Currently the hardest is looking after a baby when you’re sick yourself – Ben went to A&E with dehydration due to norovirus the other day (he couldn’t even keep dioralyte down) and I’ve caught it too. Dealing with a little one who cant explain whats wrong and just cries and wants cuddles is hard when you need to just need to sleep!!

The easiest I’ve found is the bed time – Ben is an angel and most nights sleeps straight through from 7pm to 9am!!!!

The most rewarding has to be when people compliment how good, happy and chilled he is. It makes me know I’ve done a good job as his mum!

Parenting in itself is no mean feat; how do you juggle everything you need to in order to get everything done on a daily basis?
By struggling! I actually don’t get out when I’m home alone. I have a little routine sorted of taking everything downstairs once Ben is awake and when he has a morning nap thats when I try to do things that take longer than a quick five minutes away from Ben. Its all about forward thinking and organising which I like to think I’m the queen of!

Why did you decide to start blogging?
I really struggled with PND at the beginning and needed an outlet. I wanted people to compliment me and Ben and then to tell me, or for me to read, that I wasn’t alone. It’s amazing that how I was feeling wasn’t just in my head. So many people have expressed the same feelings or failures and it’s reassuring that I’m not the only one!

Tell me a bit about your blog?
It’s a blog about my life as a mum. I have articles about me and hubby trying to go on dates (we’re currently doing Alphabet Dating where you do one date per letter), posts about my attempts at crafts or baking, days out with Ben and more recently product reviews revolving around Ben and me.

I don’t pretend to be perfect. My experience as a mum to date has been just that. I’ve been accused of being a bad mum before I even gave birth (based on the fact that I molly coddle my cats), my labour was horrendous, Ben was in NICU and I’ve suffered terrible PND. So my blog reflects just that. The truth, no lies and no pretence.

What do you want your blog to achieve and where do you hope to see it go as it grows?
I would love to go full time with my blog but I’m not expecting that for the next five years. Its just a case of building it up and going from there really.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
Know your voice, you need to discover your style of writing. I have a dry sense of humour and I’ve noticed this starting to peer through on certain posts which I want to encourage but don’t force it as it can stand out like a sore thumb and deter readers.

Also, join Linkies!!! this is valuable to getting traffic and finding fellow bloggers. Remember they are your friends, not competitors!

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

OOOO I love this question! I guess James Corden to catch up on how different our lives are now (we worked together when I used to do TV work – Pre Gavin and Stacey obvs!)

Secondly, my great Nan Lily. People tell me I look just like her and I’ve heard some hilarious stories but sadly she passed away long before I was born – if she is anything like me and my nan then I know she’d be a right hoot!

Last I’d have to say someone like a serial killer as long as it was guaranteed they wouldn’t kill me – just so i could ask them why they did it and what made them want to do it.

Tell me three random facts about you

Oh i hate random facts questions. I’m always so open and find it hard to find something I haven’t already divulged!

1) My parents were Latin American and Ballroom dancers – frequently judged by Len Goodman

2) I constantly worry about how I want my funeral to be. I don’t want to rot but I don’t want to burn to ashes (hubby is a mortician so death isnt a taboo topic)

3) I would love to have a vow renewal abroad – Vegas is the current suggestion between hubby and me but if I could convince him for a hot beach then I’d be super stoked!
